Until I got my iPod Shuffle, yes. The Audible software works reasonably well but drains the battery quite quickly. It allows you to play your audibooks in the background while working in other apps but they take a huge speed hit.

I have been listening to audio books (and radio shows) using Audible.com for some time and it works quite well. I suggest you do a search using "audible" as keyword. I have had little to no problems with the software, but I do recommend loading your books onto the mem stick using a mem stick reader, it seems to work faster and less problems.
