Hello,
So, we went on vacation and my wife forgot the charger for her new Sony DSCP100 camera. We ran into a Circuit City in Phoenix to see about a third party charger and ended up setting it to 8.2V instead of 4.2V. Long story short we have a very pretty paperweight.
Any hope of salvage? What do you think?

No chance at all. The charger just may have a warrenty, but you're probably screwed.

double the voltage across the circuits... if you are lucky they all just melted and evaporated without damaging too far in... some guy in support will overcharge you for the first circuit board on the camera....

if you are unlucky... the solder and wiring did not evaporate, no wires were lost and all that voltage made it to the interior logic circuits.... and you are right, you have a very pretty paper weight, or with a power drill a very unusual battery operated clock when you add a full battery operated clock setup. :) I've done that with motherboards that have received too many volts/amps.... very pretty....

good luck!
