My old CLIE had a dead easy back up procedure but I can't make much sense of my new UX50. Is there an easy way to back up my appointments and phone numbers to the memory stick - and then restore them if I need them. I already do hotsyncs to my laptop.

Thanks

Yep. Goto Prefs > Power Saving. Press Ctrl + R and a new form will appear. This will have Shutdown, Backup and Restore (if you backed up before, which I doubt). You can press Backup and let it backup, which will take some time. Once its done, you will now have a Backup of your device. So if it crashes, you can restore it, with the same procedure or when you hard reset. Also I recommend BackupMan to backup multiple backups of your device and store it on a more safer memory, for if your device messes up and cannot be turned on, then at least you have a backup on external memory.
