I have made the conversion from NR to NX yesterday and I have been trying to do a clean install with previous NR programs to Nx selectively. I beamed over my Memo and Address databases to an old Visor so I could simply beam it back to my NX. However, I think there is something wrong with the visor since it keeps telling me that the IR ports are not aligned even with numerous attempts to align them.

I don't want to have to enter all of the data in again manually since its painstaking work. I have two user names on the Clie Desktop one of them has the data I want and the other user name is the recent one I made for the NX. Is there a way to hotsync the info to the NX with that user name without it re-installing other programs that were backed-up previously? Most my previous NR programs have upgraded OS5 versions so I would rather install them cleanly with the proper upgrade. I just need my previous Memo and Address book data to the NX. PLs. help.....thanks.

First of all, make a backup copy of your Palm folder and place it on the desktop or someplace else. It's always best to use an app like BackupBuddy to make sure you got everything from your old device backed up.

Then, all you have to do is have the same user name for your new device as you do for your older device. Make sure you removed all the backup and archive folder from Palm/(username). Then in the customize section, select Desktop Overwrites Handheld. They sync away. The four built-in apps will synchronize. I usually then slowly place files from the backup folder (the copy I made on the desktop) onto the new device in small groups to make sure they all work. If you're going to do a fresh install, that's even better, but sometimes you do want to keep your preferences settings.

Hope this helps.

Having read your reply it makes a lot of sense. I use to just sync away with the previous palm os but going to os5 is a little tricky. I do have the backup folder remove from the previous version and it is on the desktop of my PC. I also have a backup of the previous version on a separate mem stick.

My question is: Do I reinstall the the new clie desktop with the same user name as the previous OS or, can I just hotsync the new clie to the old user name that has the data I want. Since I removed backup folder from the older version, would it just install the Memo, address and datebook? The NX device is currently set to hotsync to the new user name. It would be nice if that does not matter with the desktop, then all I would need to do is switch to the former user name on the clie desktop and sync away. As soon as I get the data in I could switch back to the new user name and continue with clean installs on updated programs.

You pretty much have it down pat. Stay with the same user name or you'll have issues with registrations. Move the backup folder from the old version and sync away. Then reinstall your apps one at a time. preferably with new versions. What I did with YiShow was try my apps one at a time from the MS Backup folder before moving them.
