This forum (and the links to other sites) have been a great help in bringing me up to speed on how to convert images for use on my clie nx70.

However, the one thing that I have not been able to sort out is what to expect in terms of the file sizes of converted video.

For example, I would like to start transferring episodes of Star Trek TOS to my Clie. I started with an 89 MB avi file, which I converted to an MPG using TMPGEnc. The converted file size was then over 440 MB. I tried then convert the file for use on the clie with Kinoma Producer and ended up with a file size of 175 MB. Obviously too big for the 128 MB Memory Stick.

I have tried playing with the frame rate, resolution etc, but cannot seem to get it into the 128 MB range.

Now the questions:

1. If I start with an 89 MB file, is there any way that I can finish with a Clie compatible file that is close to that size and still be of decent viewing quality?

2. Will a one hour (absent commercials) TV show fit on a 128 MB card.

3. If yes to No. 1 andor No. 2 does anyone have any tips to help manage file sizes.

TIA

Couple of things...if you have an NX70 why do you want to use Kinoma to do your conversions when the Image Converter that comes with the NX is much superior in quality?

This will answer your other question about what fits on a 128mb memory stick:

With Image Convert you have 3 options to convert video to: 1) HQ - High Quality which will give you 30mins on 128mb memory stick, SQ - Standard Quality which gives 60mins on 128mb memory stick, and LQ - Long Quality which gives 120mins on 128mb memory stick.

Generally you want to stick to 60min SQ mode because the LQ mode, although you get 2 hours of video, the quality suffers...but it's OK.  60min SQ is perfect because shows are normally (with no commercials) 40-50mins in length.

Hope this helps

Cheers!

I just bought a NX70v and I want to know where I could find flash files to play on the clie and how to go about doing it. Thanks. Is there a sample on the Clie Disk somewhere?
