From Gizmodo:

"Sony's given up production of the PSX media center device in Japan. The PSX was the hybrid Playstation 2 and DVR machine, which launched with much fanfare in Japan, with product shortages and the whole bit, only to leave most customers unsatisfied. That was in no small part to the lack of promised features in the PSX that Sony neglected to deliver.

That said, it's impossible to know how this bodes for the Playstation 3's DVR-like abilities. It's just as likely that the poor-selling PSX was shelved to make way for a new, more capable version using the PS3 hardware. That said, Sony's obviously in a killing mood.

I read something on IGN talking about a NEW PSX which takes video and then automatically formats it for use on your PSP. Dunno if its true or not... Ill try to find a link.

that last post is interesting, seeing as sony has ended their clie's and gone to entertainment devices, the only thing that kept me from buying a ps2 was that there was nothing it could do for me as far as comaptability between their other products, if this is true and the ps3 (or new psx) can format video, music, and even download game demos for games on memory stick i would buy a ps3 immediatly, even though i am an xbox fanatic right now, because of xbox live.....i'm more of a fanatic about memory sticks, if the psp didn't have a memory stick port and better playback quality than my old clie i would have kept my old clie.......but it was dying anyways (battery), and the psp is the envy of all my friends!!!!!!! unfortunatly none of them own a ds to show me up......oh well back to surfing the internet on my psp
