View Full Version : A new project for Mobile Source?

Dear list,

I am guessing that the development of the landscape utility by Mobile Source was in some part the result of the members of the list making the need public and obvious. Going further, I would not be surprised to discover that other sources of programming talent are watching this list and paying attention to the content. So, in the interest of seeing more programs developed for the TH55 could a list of applications of interest to TH55 users be kept on this site? Even more interesting would be to know what users would be willing to pay for these applications!

For example I would be interested in having a program just like transcriber found on the PPC, or a simple program to change the colors of the default Clie launcher screen. I would pay up to 15.00 for the transcriber but less for the color changer.

Is anyone else is interested in crating a register of TH55 application needs and wants within the existing applications section of this web site? If so, what would be the mechanics of getting this done? Just consider, with a published list of needs and an idea of what users are willing to pay to meet those needs then programmers might decide to focus on what we want versus what they think we might buy. In the end all of this could make the TH55, the last Clie, even better.

Regards,

AVTH55

I would be willing to pay almost anything for someone to develop a program to allow the TH55 to connect to a wireless Cisco LEAP encrypted network. The 2 places where I WOULD use my TH55's wireless interent the most, work and school, are both networks with this type of encryption. Mtghouse.com makes a program that allows the Tungsten C to do this, maybe the solution would be as easy as coming up with a workaround to use this program with the TH55.

Also, I would be willing to pay almost as much for someone to fix the poor beaming capabilities of the TH55, if this is a software problem. I am rarely able to quickly and convienently beam data to another palm or clie.

Me, I would be very interested in the development of a driver that could make the Sony memory stick bluetooth adapter worked with the TH55.

I'm with ya there. My only regret is not getting a BT enabled TH55.

I think the beaming is a hardware limitation. As for the encrypted networks, if LEAP is a base type of encryption, like WEP or WPA, it cant be done. If its an overlay encryption, it may be possible, but I think its the first type, which makes it impossible, because of the lack of a developer API for the wireless capabilities.

BTW, its Mobile Stream.

Well jjf, you stomped all over my dreams! : )
Ohwell, guess that's reality, thanks.

But then again, everyone claimed (even the experts i.e., sharky and cliepet) that landscape would never happen on the TH55 and thankfully it did!

Everyone (note the sarcasm) has said that the experts said landscape was not possible. They didnt say that. They said it would be difficult, but as a pay program its worth it for the developers. The WiFi hack you are asking for could be possible with alot of reverse engineering, and would be something Cliepet could attempt, but it isnt something enough people need for him to think its worth it. The landscape app is not a hack, its a system extension, that uses available programming information to hijack the sony API to make Clies work in landscape. Again, ill say, not a hack. But you can always keep hoping.

As mentioned that was never the claim.

It was proved possible a long time ago with the T3 (and possible to use the T3 system components on some model CLIEs too), and later on the VZ.

BTW: The MobileSource Landscape utility does a very good job but it is not a complete solution (like that found in the T3 or VZ or Tapwave). Close enough, especially considering the tradeoffs.

re: LEAP encryption
This is an encryption protocol built on top of standard UDP. A custom client could be written, however integrating it into the lowest level Network drivers would require more work (so you could use the standard Web apps to connect via LEAP)

Once again, like most of these things, the audience for such a hack/program is very small. If someone has the motivation (for whatever reason), almost anything is possible.

Nope, its not possible. I know im being hypocritical saying this, but Cliepet has tried, and the only processor speed altering commands he has found have been underclocking (mainly because the system was intended to be underclocked for audioplayer and other things). He says there is a limit on speed combinations that causes it to always max out at around 123 (program speed, not actually bench speed, which is a little faster). I saw CP post this a while ago, so the info may not be perfect, but thats the essence of what he said.

I second that.

Ditto.
Sorry for repeating the incorrect company name:

http://www.mobilesource.com - a different company
http://www.mobile-stream.com - the creators of the Landscape utility (highly recommended BTW)
