I cant seem to get my T5 to hard reset. I tried holding down the power button and reset button at the same time but it just does a soft reset.
How to do it???

If I'm correct, not having done it yet myself, you hold both power and reset, then release the reset. You should then see text on the screen telling you to select the left button to reset all data, or the right to cancel.
correction. I just tried it on my T-5 and you have to hold the power button down until you see the palm logo. then you get the text to "erase all data YES = up button, no = any other button"

And keep in mind that if you had a password set, the hard reset becomes a complete zero-out reset!

Hold the power button and press the reset button. Keep holding the power the power button until you see the second Palm Powered Screen then release. It will then give you the option to push the 5-way up or down.

My T5 is dead still - I have tried every reset you have described on your page (Tanker Bob's Palm OS Page) but the screen remains black and the thing is dead. Any thoughts?
Thank you for any help you might be able to give me - I am getting very discouraged!

It sounds like the battery is not charged. Leave it in the charger for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, and see if it will turn on.

....and after it charges for a while, do a soft reset and see if it turns on. I agree. It sounds like the charger might not be working.
If you cant get it to work, go to any store that sells them and ask if you could hook yours up for a moment to see if it works.
Mine had the same symptoms out of the box. They usually put a note in the box that it won't work until charged.

Dear Phaggard and Chukar,
after a "long sleep" of three days I just got my T5 to go on again: it is definitely not the fact that it was not charged. I did a soft reset like Danopoly suggested on the other thread. How can I tell if the charger is working: when I plug it into the socket, the battery symbol on top is lit up with a "bolt of lightning" going through it. Does that mean it is charging OK?
I have another question: this is the second time that this has happened since I have bought the T5 and every time it just needs to sit for 2-3 days and think about things before it will turn on again. Then, when it does, the date and time is allwrong. Could that mean something that some smart person out there knows how to interpret?
Any further advice is gratefully appreciated!

It could be a major software conflict. Many things that worked on earlier devices don't work on the T5. Check out the T5 software compatibility list on this forum and Lance's page noted on that thread for potential conflicts. If you can't find anything there, post a list of your apps here. If it isn't a software issue, then you need to take it back and exchange it.

Dear Tanker Bob,
I finally managed to get my T5 to turn on again and I did a reset while having the charger plugged in. So far, so good: it's still on after a whole day of checking intermittently. I have also checked Lance's software list and I don't seem to have any of the "bad" items on my T5. I think I will take your advice: if it dies on me again, I will take it back and exchange it when I go to the United States again in two weeks.
Thank you very much for now!
Kind regards,
Shoshana

Hi Tanker Bob,
weel, here we go again: I had recharged the T% last night and then this morning it wouldn't turn on: dead yet again!
Back to the store for an exchange - this is the third death in 2 weeks?
What do you think?

Sounds like time to exchange it. That's a pretty rare failure mode in the Palm world. If you are operating within the bounds of Lance's compatibility list, chances are pretty good that there is some hardware problem in your T5. There are several other threads here that describe strange behaviors that collectively point to the hardware.

I'm not so sure about Lance's list. At least one on that list proved to be creating problems with my setup and it was a "so-so" (perhaps "medium risk"). Thankfully my problem was not nearly as disasterous as some. I know when I first got my T5, immediately EVERYTHING I had on my T3 was loaded. Then I started having problems, but couldn't locate it for many weeks (6 to 8). Even then ,the problems presented itself only at the end of HotSyncs. I advise that anyone loading software use UnInstallManager and CleanUp. Let them be the first applications (apps) to be loaded. And, then go as slowly as possible adding apps. More than one or two major applications had some adjustments to make in order to run on a T5 properly. There are still several apps that have yet to get past the T5's "bug" and are waiting on PalmOne to fix a "bug" that some apps found a way around the differences between a T3 and a T5, which makes me question the notion that the difference is a "bug". Nevertheless, these problems have made this transition period seem unusually long. After locating and disabling and then removing my problem app, my T5 has been operating flawlessly. :D
