I have two Sony Cliés PEG-NX80 V/U. I've been trying to use them as one device, I mean, I want to use the same programs and the same files on both CLIÉ'S. So I tried to use the "MS BACKUP" to back up CLIÉ 1 and restore it on CLIÉ 2, and vice-versa. I would always be with both CLIÉ'S syncronized and backed up.
The problem is: It doesn't work! They say that the back up was made in another device and it refuses to restore. I've already tried to use the same user name on both CLIÉ'S, but it didn't work either. As I understood, I need a way to give the same internal device number to both CLIÉ'S. But I haven't found out how to do it yet. Can you please help me out whith this issue?
Thanks,

Marre

It is not recommended that you do that, because many sync conduits will mess up anyway when you try to sync two devices to the same name.

I recommend that you just install the apps separately to get the same apps into both devices. As for the PIM synching, you will need to sync it into Outlook and have both hotsync names point to the same outlook pst (configure the conduit for that). The outlook data will serve as the central database for both devices. (The same way you sync your PIM data between a Palm and a PPC or Symbian device.)

As Marre suggested, I would sync them as two different devices-as they really are. Once you get them both setup, you might try this if you don't want to use Outlook as your central data point(which is probably the best idea):

Browse to Program Files\Sony Handheld\Your 1st NX Username\Backup
Copy all the files in that directory and place them in your other device's backup directory. That "should" get all the apps and data on your first NX to the second one. It's not exactly something you'd want to do daily, but maybe it will lead to something that will work for you.

Thanks for the suggestions, but to make it work for me it really needs to work as one. Since I intend to back up one Clié in one City on one specific day and restore this back up on the other Clié in another City on the next day, I don't see any other way to do it.
Any other suggestion?

Marceloc.clie, the only way I have found it possible for 2 devices to share usernames and be seen as the "same" clie is to hard reset and install everything from scratch on the 2 devices with the same user name. This will allow you to share phonebook, schedule, etc when you hotsync on the same computer. But unfortunately MSBackup still won't think they're the same device. It might be possible for you to figure out which files on your computer you would like to share between the 2 devices, and email them to yourself back and forth. Good luck!

It didn't work either, HotSync didn't recognize Clié #2 whit the same name.
Does anyone knows how to change it's internal ID?

Hi gentlemen,
I may have found the answer to this issue.
First backup to the MS (let's say to the backup set D for example) the clie you want to restore the datas to. Assume the source datas (coming from the other clie) are also on the MS, let's say in the backup set A. Read the content of the MS on your PC, ans simply copy / paste the content of the source backup set A to the folder D.
Then restore the clie with the backupset D, and voila !
Be careful, the backup set number range seen from ms backup go from 1 to 5, and they're numbered from 0 to 4 when read from the PC. Don't miss !
Excuse for my poor english but I'm not a native english speaker.
Cheers :-)
