Sony Clies - Why so cheap?

Lately I've seen an influx of very cheap Clies being sold locally (especially the UX40/50). I realize they've been discontinued, but I'm wondering if a lot of these sellers are picking them up for next to nothing and turning a profit?

I also realize that there are a lot of refurbs out there. I bought my perfect condition (with minor screen hissing) UX50 for $350 CDN last month, and the guy I bought it from had many more Clies for sale.

I've also seen a deal at Staples.ca for the Clie NZ90 going for $149 CDN.

Any of you guys notice similar things in your areas?

I would doubt anyone could pick one up for cheap. Expansys sells them for a very high premium.

This guy usually has quite a few (it's who I bought from). Keep in mind these are Canadian prices and you could probably work out a better deal.

where did you pick a 350CAD UX50????

He has another one for $350 but it has a tilted screen. Could be why it's cheap? I really don't know what the going rate for UX50's are currently..

The one I bought was most likely a refurb, and other than the occasional screen hiss it's mint condition..

Ar, if only my TG50 had broken now instead of last year. This would have been a better time for me to upgrade.

Man...I was looking at the NZ90. With the WIFI card, the NZ90 is probably a better device than the UX. It has all of the UX's funtions - specially now with the landscape app - and more. I mean, it would be great to have a 2.0 MP camera, remote control feature, and MP3 player functionality in one device. If only it had a cell phone antenna, that would be the a dream come true. It also looks so nice also, I love the black.

NZ90 - I saw that on the shelf beside the UX50 at the time when I got it (not from Staples but saw it at Staples) - UX50 was $999 and NZ90 was $1299.99. Right now its its almost 90% off... too bad theres only 1.

actually, the NZ90 at staples has been "sold out" for ages. it's just a glitch in their website.

FWIW, there's a seller on eBay selling refurb UX50s for $415 US. SEems to me a refurb is as good as new, practically speaking.
