View Full Version : Clie-Friendly CLIESOURCE (ATTN: Webmaster)
How many of you (hoping this gets the attention of the webmasters) would like to see a Clie-Friendly Cliesource section?
I would propose a clie-friendly URL for start page, and clie-friendly forums (most important)!
Not sure what this means:confused:

I think Cliesource needs a PDA-formatted section of this website so that users can access the forums and news via their Clies (without dealing with all the graphics and awkward formatting)
I would love to be able to read/post to the forums using my WiFi access on my NX70 without constant scrolling around the screen :)

I'm assuming he's talking about a version that is optimized for the Clie screen for those with the Wifi card.

i would like to have a cliesource-version for pda's; got my wlan router working today; now happily surfing on the balcony ;-)
it would probably be enough to have access to the top news of the day though;
by the way: is there any good directory of pda-websites (no websites with content for pda-users BUT websites of all kinds pre-formated for use with a pda)? i am especially looking for european pages.

ClieMarty,
check this post http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3637&highlight=clie+friendly
I use one of the lists mentioned here as my home page in Netfront and have the others bookmarked...

Just turn off images in netfront, set the view to (- minus) and your pretty much set! :) At least that's what I do when I visit a lot of forums on my clie.

a pda-optimized version would be great... no more messed up stuff in netfront...
lightninja... no, turning off images and setting to minus doesn't help... a good start would be maybe the osnews.com pda page
http://www.osnews.com/home.php
as a template or something,
Carlos

I can consistently load everything but the front page with images and tables on. Everything else off. That gives you a fairly similiar browsing experience with the page minimized....
The front page is hit or miss. I usually can get enough loaded to sign in for a posting cookie. If I turn off images it'll load the whole thing.

I used to haunt www.hiptop.com (while I was deciding which way to jump - Kyo7135, Danger HipTop, or Clie - guess where I landed :)).
They have a phpBB based forum system, and as an option in your user profile give you the ability to switch between a default view, or a hiptop optimised view.
In a previous position, we reformatted output on the fly depending on the header info passed from the browser (you could hit the sites from WML, HTML, cHTML/iMode, PalmOS, PPC, even VXML and the appropriate content would be delivered). This was done automagically via JSP pages.
Something between these should be possible. Perhaps controled via CSS or XSLT?
(Sorry for the alphabet soup guys)

For the purpose of clarity: a cliesource.com mobile edition (optimized for wireless devices), as in something like http://mobile.cliesource.com/, or http://mobile.cliesource.com.wireless/, by way of example. (This is just an example. No hot link here.)
Another "real" example is treocentral.com for Handspring Treo users:

I'd love it if Cliesource were more PDA-friendly.

I keep hoping for a browser with landscape view. How hard can it be? It would really enhance the surfing experience!

The suggestion of not showing the images will work.
I have been thinking of making a mobile edition of the site but am currently tied up with a lot of things. I tried searching for pre-built mobile hack for vbulletin can't find any. If I have to create a mobile edition, I have to create a whole template which is very time consuming. I'll promise to look into it once i get more time.
Regards.

Very glad to hear.. I would have to say that it would certainly be worth the effort.

NOTE TO Netfront USERS: Make sure to turn off CSS if you want to prevent Page Too Large errors.

I can view this page perfectly on my NX70V w/ NetFront in the 'minus sign' view.

There is more to being PDA friendly than just being able to scale correctly in NetFront. If you are on a PDA and surfing, the general assumption should be that you are coming in over a low bandwidth connection. The graphics should be minimal, the screen should be scaled to fit accordingly (for this site, we can probably assume 320x320 as a minimum?). Popups, and frames should be removed (Cliesource is pretty good in this case).
You'd think there was vBulletin plugin that wuold handle this type of action ....

Perfectly? That's how I'm viewing it right now. It's not bad, but I wouldn't say perfect.
Thanks Reggie for looking into this!!
