This is just rumored, but according to Ed at Brighthand the next palm will have 64 MB Ram. Do you think that means Sony will be forced to offer the same? Great news, if it helps up the ram on clies and level the playing field with PPCS.

Read about it here:

I am sorry, but I thought all of the crying I have read in the forums over the last few months seemed to be about the lack of memory. I thought this might be a bright light in all of the *****ing I have seen over sony this and memory that. I did not mean to be prolonging arguments, but rather, giving some potential hope to the memory starved palm community.

I guess I am surprised that this has not stirred more interest in the unending memory debate. I will let it die if you will. I usually, like most of the community, rely of Ed for cutting edge into.

I think more RAM is just for bragging rights than anything else. Between JackFlash and my MS I always have about 5MB of free RAM at any given time. Sure more RAM would be nice but I don't think it's critical. PPCs NEED more RAM because of their bloated OS and programs.

I don't know what you folks are smoking, but I'd LOVE to have more RAM in my Clie. I don't want to jerk around with any flash modification programs, and I don't want to worry about amont of RAM all the time, deleting stuff to compensate.

I'd say with RAM being so cheap these days (for crying out loud, Dell packs in 64MB in their $300 model), and the fact that OS5.2 is now ready to go, any new OS5 Clies that come out after TG50 that has less than 32MB should get destroyed in the reviews.

I totally agree. I will not be buying a new PDA without more RAM. I'm tired of shuffling things around.

I don't think the rumor is true. Palm SG usually doubles its RAM. This would be quadrupling it!!!

My specs:

XSCale - either 300 or 400mhz - 95% sure
32mb of RAM - Guess
320x320 - 100% sure
Built in WiFi - 100% sure
Built in Keyboard - 95% sure
Maybe Bluetooth - Made it up ;)
$499 - Guess

If this thing ships with the new XScale and 64 megs, I would seriously consider buying it.

SONY probably won't ship a 64 meg Clie' for 2 years, the next model will probably have a measly 32 megs. Then again they'll probably just keep it at 16 to force people into buying their pathetic memory sticks.

Sooner then later the PALM will be just as bloated as the PPC. I give it less then 8 months.

It will never be as bloated as PPC...since the PPC was based on the bloated Windows and POS was built from scratch. It's less than 4mb!!
Sony will do whatever it needs to, in order to stay ahead of the competition. If 32mb becomes standard then they will release a 64mb unit... People will still buy memory sticks. (For MP3's, JPG's, Movies, use with digital cameras, etc!)

Don't make me laugh, it hurts. Do you honestly believe that future versions of the PALM OS, like 6 will remain the same size? The more features your OS has the bigger it is. And unlike PALM OS5, PocketPC 2002 and it's apps were completely written for the ARM.

Out of the 64 megs of RAM on my PPC, only 6.2 megs are being used. How is this bloated?
Sorry, 4.8 megs I had 3 programs running. =P

For my digital camera needs I'll stick with CF, 1Gig is only $149.
