Please get me another Joystick / Control Device for the Alienware [notebook] ASAP. I want to bring a backup or something else with me next week. Please test thoroughly.

Got this message from my boss, right now we are discussing either sending my 3D mouse with him (I am the only one who is accustomed to using it) using a USB to RS232C cable (the 3D cad mouse is serial).

Or setting him up with a gaming pad. I support any PC joystick, but he hates lugging a joystick through the airports and doesn't like to pack it in his luggage which would risk damaging it.

suggestions gaming folks? any favorite input devices that are smaller than the standard joystick?

I'd say gaming pad, much more sturdy for travel.

I got that, ordered a cheap cyberglove (to prove capability -- we can get a better one later). and improved mouse handling, added a few more features to the new multi-button mice.

So did he want it for a project, or just to kill time in the hotel?

I have a USB to playstation controller adapter.. it's not so professional, but the control is dead on. At least, for a joystick. 3D mouse sounds like arm strain. :D

I am the only one who can use my 3D mouse... everyone else has problems.

I bought a $10 Saitek and it works just fine for Mame.

Using a digital joy pad for a 3D enviroment is lame though, it's only good for 2D games.

I'm still waiting for the Spaceball 5000 drivers to become available for the Mac and will buy one when that finally happens.

Your boss is a nerd, because of how he writes. :p :D I'm just a tard. :o

I really want one for Maya(Or and 3D app.), since it allows one hand to navigate and move the model and the other (The one with the mouse.) to do all of the edits.

I was going to get one in December, but the driver was only in beta. :(

You could always "get" one of these (http://neil.fraser.name/hardware/3d-mouse/) :).
