I had completely had it with my T5!!! I got the device for the contacts and calendar but I also wanted to be able to surf the net and check email. versamail is not pciking up my yahoo mail and when i use my v600 to acces the web i am being charged a arm and an leg by my carrier. I am considering a sidekick bt tmobile. are there any alternatives?

Do you have T-Mobile service?? I get a great deal from them. For 19.99/ month I can have unlimited data transfer (internet time). I've heard sidekicks are nice, but I think you should be able to work with what you've already got.

I wish that I knew more of what your problem was guest. I am doing the same thing with my T5 and SE T616 and am not having any problems. As a matter of fact, I am pretty amazed that I am not having any issues, aside from some HotSyncing thingys every once in a while.

You say that you cannot get your YahooMail. Have you signed up for MailPlus from Yahoo, that is the only way to get your mail via POP. Then make sure that your settings are correct: pop.mail.yahoo.com / smtp.mail.yahoo.com /for SMTP make sure that you check for authentication.

You say that your data fees are too much and you have a V600. That sounds like Cingular. I too am with Cingular and if you are using their unlimited MEdia plan then that is $20 on top of your phone plan. If your connection is setup right, Cingular's servers should be looking at your phone as the means that you are surfing, rather than your PDA. If you are using a CSD connection (meaning that it takes you minutes instead of GPRS which is just data) then you will get charged extra because of usage fees as well as the minutes you lose.

Sidekicks are not great data devices. They are IM devices that double as phones. You might not be as pleased, but depending on your usage patterns, you may be. I would hold off in getting rid of the T5 until you can diagnose exactly what it is that is going on, because by the sounds of things in your post, the T5 is not the issue.

i have subscribed to mailplus. but i still can't get the mail through versamail. I have followed the connections exactly like they are in the t5 manual. How can I set up my phone to connect to my t5 so it doesn't look like i am using an outside device and therefore be charged per kbs instead of the flat rate $20 plan? BTW I got the sidekick and setup my yahoo mail and i have no problems with it so far. I would use the sidekick for anything else but to retreive mail and IMing but it seems ridiculous to walk around with three devices unnecessarily

What kind of phone do you have? The T5 can do most connections using the phone setup in preferences, but others you may need to manually do yourself.

Other suggestions for VersaMail: make sure that your user name doesn't include your address as you only need the part before the '@"; pop.mail.yahoo.com is the incoming server address, you dont need to check for anything else; smtp.mail.yahoo.com is the outgoing address, you do not need SSL, but you do need to check the box that says 'check for authentication', the settings there should mirrior your login settings; make sure that you didnt set a low limit on the size of email, but if you do set one, 20k is about as large as you want it as that will take everything but spam mailings in most cases;

If you want to do the phone settings manually , use this info if you are with Cingular (I dont know of the other ISP settings):
Under Prefs, go to Connection and create a new connection
Name: whatever you want to call it
Connect to: Phone
Via: Bluetooth unless your phone has only infrared then choose IR
Device: what ever phone that you have set up via the phone connecton, if not done already go do that and come back here and choose the name of your phone
Model: that depends on your phone, in my case I have a Sony Ericsson T616 and that is classified under the model UPDD.

If you do the phone setup then you will not need to choose model as it will be there when you choose the phone.

under Prefs, go to Network and create a new network connection
Service: what ever name, I use Cingular
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (all caps)
PAssword: CINGULAR1 (all caps)
Connection: use the connection that you created above
Phone: *99***# (input just as you see it here)
Under Details you can keep everything as it is

That should get you connected via GPRS on Cingular. I cannot speak for TMobile, AT&T as they have different settings. To my knowledge you cannot do this kind of setup on Sprint and VZ phones. Hope that helps.

Just a note:
If you already have your phone setup to Cinguarl, all you have to do is go in and change the network settings to match the above and you will be up and running. Cheers :)

Okay I have double checked all of my settings for versamail and everything is the way it should be. Maybe I am missing some major point. Is is suppose to get my messages everytime I sync or is it suppose get my messages wirelessly through wi-fi or if I am connecting through my phone?

Also with my phone, I have the two connected but i was told by cingular that if i access the internet using my t5 and the v600 as a modem for it my charges would be $80 per month for unlimited. Can they tell if which device I am accessing with?

Antoine thanks for your patience with me if i can finally get this figured out the sidekick is going back!!!

The phone thing is most likely just a bandwidth thing. They charge alot for phone bandwidth, and the difference is that what your phone can access by itself is low bandwidth sites like mobile sites, while when you use it as a modem, you can access any site, but will be using considerably more bandwidth. If you use a portal like www.skweezer.com, it will lower the amount of bandwidth you use, and you may be able to get away with a cheaper plan.
