I'm thinking of purchasing a backup battery for my NZ, but I'm wondering how long will a fully charged spare battery hold the charge without use?

I can think of few occasions where I would need to use it, but I'd like to have it on hand anyway for those rare times when I may need to take a lot of pictures or for when I will be away from a charging source for a while.

As with any charged spare battery, I would recommend one would use it at least once every couple of weeks, or at the least once a month. Swap batteries! As there have been multiple posts here in this forum..... batteries seem to get better with time (consistancy). If you hardly ever use it... well it may take a very long time, indeed, to get the cycles up, and the battery 'broken in'. I would recommend, when you get your spare battery.... to get it charged up and swap it with your 'regular' battery every other day. Charge up your regular battery, swap it with your spare battery. Charge up your spare battery and use that till it drains down. Then fully charge your spare battery and swap it back for your regular battery. I'd think it would be good to do this for a few weeks. then do it every other week or so just to keep it working. I don't know how long a charged battery will last with it not being used. If you come across more information about this... please post it. :)

The battery will only lose a very small percentage everyday :).
