I am hopefully going to purchase a TG50. I can't wait any longer for a T series with virtual graffiti or a new NX series. I realize I just don't like the hinge and rotating screen. I see prolonged use as leading to squeaky hinges or loose hinges and I just don't want to deal with any hinges anymore.

Well anyways, i'm running os4.1 on my NR70v with a bunch of hacks, das, and programs. I realize that i'm going to be jumping to OS5 with the new TG50. How can I sync my addressbook/todo list/datebook/wordsmith files without syncing all of my other hacks and games incompatible with OS5? I'm also running Yishow 5.2 right now, and I believe Yishow only runs on CLies for version 5.3?

If I just took the TG50 home and synced it under the same hotsync name, would that be asking for a whole world of trouble? What's an easier and safer way of making the conversion, and how do I go about installing applications individually. Thanks!

also for current TG owners, any programs/applications/games completely incompatible with the TG50? Thanks.

I've done tons of upgrades... The safest, but longest way is to do the following:

1. If you're synching to Palm Desktop, export each set of databases (File -> Export). If you're synching to Outlook, don't worry about it.

2. In the Palm Desktop user list, choose "Edit Users", then Rename your old username to something else (Like Old_YoYoYoo)

3. Hotsync your new TG50, and use your original Hotsync name.

4. If you were synching to Palm Desktop, then do an Import of all your databases. (File -> Import). If you were Synching to Outlook, your conduit should automatically copy all PIM data to your Clie.

5. Go into your desktop applications that use conduits (ie: Documents to Go) and setup your new Hotsync Name in that program.

6. Go to your old Hotsync directory on your hard drive (It now be something like C:\Program Files\Palm\Old_yoyoYoo\Backup) and try to see what files you would like to restore. Double click on them to add them on your next hotsync. If possible, re-install program (.PRC) files from the original distribution, and re-enter the serial numbers manually. Do not add files like System Prefs or Unsaved Prefs if you can help it.

7. After restoring certain programs with conduits, you may want to manually go into the conduit setup and choose "Desktop overwrites Handheld" (ie: Ultrasoft Money) before hotsyncing again.

That's the simple way of putting it.

Choosing the proper files in your Backup directory are a different story.
