I would like to know if anyone has run across this before.

I have an NR70 and a SL10 with a 32meg stick.

The stick seems to work fine on the SL10, but I get errors using it on the NR70. Sometimes the NR70 won't even see the stick. Most of the errors state that there's a bad sector while accessing especially if the entire unit is moved around. My first thought is that there's something loose in the NR70.

Could the stick be going bad? I've had it over half a year and used it very frequently.

Also, I placed the stick in an NR70/V and get the same errors. That kind of goes against the thought of something being loose in my NR70.

Any thoughts?...

Sounds like you have two problems running at once:

1) NR70 not reading the stick. This is a widely reported problem. Mine started to do it after about 3 months and it got worse. The solutions are:
- return it to Sony who will insert a plastic sheet which makes it a snugger fit
- do the the same yourself, if you feel like opening it up and voiding your warranties
- put some clear tape (sellotape) on your memory stick to make it slightly thicker. One or two sheets should do. This is what I did and it works roughly 80/90% of the time.

2) an error on the stick. Copy your data and reformat the stick in a card reader. Then put your data back on. Must be programs out there that do this, if you don't have access to a card reader.

Both should take around 10 mins!

Hope this helps

There's a very detailed "how to" fix this problem on your own that I wrote up a while back. I haven't heard any complaints and it fixes it just as well as Sony does, only it takes 15 minutes as opposed to a week at last check. As for voiding the warranty, I wouldn't worry about it. You're not breaking any seals and you can just as easily remove the paper if you need to send it back. Do I quick search for the "paper trick fix" and you can get the details.
