View Full Version : NX Crashes

After using the NX70 for about three months, I have begun to experience hard crashes that do not simply freeze the unit, but when rebooted, erase all the data on the handheld. Has anyone been experiencing this problem and, if so, were you able to identify the problem? I do back up, but have found that when restored, all of the data (e.g. my datebook) does not restore in its entirely. I have no idea why. On one occasion, it took about ten restores before the data in the datebook returned to its status at the time of the crash. The whole thing is very frustrating. Again, if anyone has a clue why this is happening, your help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like an application doesnt like the NX. What programs are you running? I might be able to tell you whats fighting with your OS.

I had that happen to me using AdvBackup... one backup worked then on another backup the unit just rebooted, with the little sound thing happening... and all data was gone... and the restore from that backup did the same reboot thing so I used the Clie backup/restore... and got everything back...

Unfortunately, I've found the Clie app inconsistent. The incident with the ten restores occurred using the Clie backup app.

Hmmmm. That's not a lot of apps . . .
It ::may:: be worth your while to do a hard reset and install everything fresh... (not from a backup) It sounds like your backups have backed up the problem child too.... just do a selective restore to get your databases back....
Sometimes when you install/then delete a program, it leaves 'remnants' that could cause instability. Might be worth a shot . . . or maybe a program's become corrupted that your backup is re-installing.
Just be sure to rename your backup file in SonyHandheld file on your PC. That way you'll have it, but it won't try to re-install the 'bad' thing too . . .
Good luck!

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I've been forced to "start over" quite a number of times, going so far as to not only do a hard reset and install from the backup on my desktop, but re-download and reinstall all the apps from the vendors. Quite a pain in the ***.

I keep at least 3 rolling MS Backups on two seperate sticks. The MS Backup has been far more reliable than the desktop. I also keep three rolling backup copies on my 128mb Memory Stick on my hard drive.
Yes, I have had it happen one time in the past with the auto hard reset and no warning.

If it's a software problem, how is exchanging it going to fix the problem? I agree that in might be a bug in the OS/hardware, unless you have some inside info that later models were fixed.
