View Full Version : Any word on Silverscreen 3.0?

I know that many here regard Silverscreen as the dim-witted, albeit gorgeous blonde of Palm OS launchers, but I, for one, am not afraid to admit to the world that I am a shallow creature who values style over substance and refuses to use any other (though I must admit to trying the eval versions of most of the other launchers out there).
That said, I am starting to get frustrated at the lack of available skins, other than commercial ones, and the undue (IMO) length of time it's taking PocketSensei to release v.3.0 - a version that I sincerely hope will put some more brains into SS, and in doing so, firmly place it back on the top of the heap.
So, does anyone here have any inside info on when it's finally going to be released? Oh, and I already tried contacting PocketSensei directly and was told that they're busy working on it in their "underground" lair...

Nope, I did like SilverScreen, but whith its lack of good skins and the fact that its getting behind other launchers, I've decided to move on to ZLauncher.
BTW, there has been two other threads with the exact same question found here (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4957&highlight=silverscreen) and here (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7244&highlight=silverscreen) :D

I want to develop a Hi-Res Skin Manager for SilverScreen. It will take some time, but a Low-Res version is already avaliable as a Freeware.

It might not be worthwhile to develop until SS3 comes out. I imagine the skinning will be different.

i am still using SS 2.9.something If they would just give wallpaper and grafitti skin options then i will gladly pay for yet another upgrade. I have liked their product for a while but i want to tplay with my new toy!
i would also love see SS 3.0 well or at least some new set's of hires icons ...

You are not alone in your preference for SilverScreen over the other launchers. I have been using SS since my first B&W screened Handspring Deluxe 3 years ago, and now absolutely LOVE the new Designs by Bert Hi-Res themes on my Clie NZ90. Already having fun with the new stuff on the update last week to the SS 2.9.7 version. Really looking forward to the 3.0 version in the future!

Well, I am certainly gratified to hear that I am not the only one on this site who prefers SilverScreen over the other launchers on the market. For a while there I was starting to feel a bit, well, "defective," for lack of a better word.
Here's to hoping for v.3.0 sometime in the near future...

i have used silverscreen 4 a couple of years and when i got my SL10 i was very dissapointed. it has trouble with launching some programs on my MS ans is slightly unstable. i also think that the colors in the themes are very dark and the grey-level control is inadiquite.

Uh, yes, hello? Are we on the air? I'm a longtime SS user, first time posting about it.
Sure, I've looked at other launchers. I am completely put off by the others. There is no other launcher in my life darling. SS is the only one for me.
Yes, I was wondering the exact same thing about upgrades just the other day.
Hello? PocketSensei? Are you reading this <tapping on monitor>.

There was an ad in the last handheld computing for themester and ss 3, but no ss 3 on the site (OBVIOUSLY) and though that is the first piece of software i ever paid for on the palm os, i think that i am likely finished with it.
Started using YiShow, like the customization, like the looks, and love the added capabilities. Silver Screen will be hard pressed to beat it.
And if i want to change the look of SS i need to either buy commercial themes(not like THEY are pumping them out at sensei anymore), or buy themester.
With yishow, i just edit ANY jpg or bmp file to fit the correct dimensions and *SHAZAM* new look.

One of the best feature of SilverScreen was the Ticker function.

They just put out their newsletter today...all they said was that 2.9.7 was probably the last update before version 3.0.
Maybe sometime this spring or summer?
I currently use ZLauncher because of the hires icons, but always keep SS around since it was the first software I bought for my Visor deluxe!

I have only used two launcher replacements, Launch'Em and SilverScreen. I tried LauncherX, YiShow, etc., but they have not struck my fancy as much as SilverScreen. They are all great pieces of software, no doubt, but SilverScreen seems to give me everything I need, without everything I don't need. I only hope that version 3 does include the capability of applying wallpaper and better themes, though, since the FireViewer Pix option seems a bit lame to me.
Anyways, can't wait for SilverScreen 3.0...

You always remember your first... I used Launch'Em way back as my first launcher replacement and I think it was in the top at the time:)

You're right, Tixx... I really believe Launch'Em is a whole lot more complete than SilverScreen. Its appearance is its only drawback. I tried to visit the Synergy home page a while ago, but it was offline... Wonder what happened to them...

Well, while you all wait for SilverScreen 3.0, you consider to create your own SilverScreen 2.x skins.
Now I finish the SilverScreen Skin Manager version 1.1.20 beta!
It can create Skins in 160x160 low-res and 320x320 hi-res for PalmOS 5 or Sony Models!
It is a Freeware!

No, but 2.9.7 is out. These guys are trying to bilk all they can out of 2.X before they release 3.0!

All that can be said is that Silverscreen version 3.0 better be worth the long wait and the cost must be comparable to the other launchers. Ever wonder why it's called Silverscreen, perhaps the developers thought they could charge us those "HIGH" prices based on what silver was going for on the stock market that day!

Maybe 3.0 will change to "Goldscreen?" :D

SS was my first launcher purchase. However, after ZLauncher, I can't imagine that I'll ever go back.

Marketing is what's up! They run a $X dollars off promotion and call it a .X release! :( So I think it's safe to say that greed is what's up! ;)
