Hey all! I just got my new clie. I have installed some apps on it that come on the CD but was wondering about a few things.

1. This is the most important one. I just installed Clie Mail on my CLie and I was wondering if I could get an email account. I believe it needs to be Pop3 ande that would be nice. Will someone direct me to a free email adress that I can use with my CLie? I would really like to use the app, and I was just wondering if anyone of you knew if there is a good email domain that I can sign up for and have it sync to my Clie! Will you tell me how to set it up?

2. Is there a FREE ebook reader (quality would be good) besides Cspotrun which I hate? Is there also a place to get free ebooks? THanx

Thanx for all of your future help.

Clie Mail will sync with Outlook or Outlook Express on your computer just fine.  Can you use that?

PalmReader is an excellent e-book reader.  It will read both encrypted (from www.Palmdigitalmedia.com (http://www.Palmdigitalmedia.com), where you also get the app) and unencrypted (for ex. from www.memoware.com (http://www.memoware.com) ) )

Here are some other e-book sites:

http://www.baen.com/library/

http://www.blackmask.com/page.php

http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/ebooks/ebooklist.html

http://www.fictionwise.com/   (not free, but VERY inexpensive)

http://www.unityspot.com/arthurs/

http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books/

There are also a number of  binary newsgroups like that have a lot of books available, and there's always Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/).

If you want to make txt files (like you get from Project Gutenberg) into books for your PDA, it's easiest to use a converter like the Window$ program DocInOut (http://www.palmblvd.com/software/pc/DocInOut-1999-05-22-palm-pc.html).  It's free.

Thanx a lot! I don't use Outlook though or outlook express. I would like to make a new email account where I can sync it up

I should also point out that there is a FREE and 'PRO' version of PalmReader . . . the 'PRO' version has a few more 'bells and whistles' but the free one works just fine.

Hope my responses were helpful.

GOOD LUCK!

ALSO, just a suggestion...you might get more responses if you make your thread title a little more descriptive of your question(s) . . . for example "E-book reader Question" or something similar . . . people that don't have a lot of time 'skim' post headings to see what they chose to read . . .

Just a thought . . . no biggie.

HAVE FUN!:)

Geez. Everything is too complicated with these ebooks. I would really like it, but there are just to many things to look at. Incompatibility. Is there one good free reader that I can use, and just ONE good site that I can get some ebooks?

If your looking for a free POP e-mail address, check out HotPOP (http://www.hotpop.com/index.jsp). It's free but I think they send you ads or something. You also might want to check with your ISP. Most give you one or more POP e-mail accounts with your internet service.

No, there's not a 'one size fits all reader' or doc type.  You have to pick one to suit your needs.  (Just like with all other Palm Software)

Sorry.

It doesn't sound like it's too big a deal for you . . . just don't do it until you feel more confident with your PDA & the software you already have.   It IS a big deal for me...reading is the main reason I have an NX70v in the first place.  Love reading on the 'big screen'!
