Hello Everybody...

Ya'll can stop laughing now! :) I know the question I'm asking looks as if I'm unfamiliar with the UX50 and its functions but I'm at a loss.

I want to manually perform a backup of all my files once a day so that I am protected should any unfortunate events occur on my UX50 but I havn't been able to figure out how to do this.

Does the UX50 automatically backup itself? Is it possible to set it to backup at a specific time during the day/  night?

Please help... I've already went through having to reinstall everything once before when the unit wouldn't turn on and i had to disconnect the battery.. naturally i laost all of my databases!

Try BackupMan.

Smeggie suggested it in an earlier post, and it's AWESOME!!

backupman is indeed a fantastic app, but if you are broke after spending all that money on your UX you can use the builtin backup...

Pref>Power Saving> press ctrl r> backup

This will backup the clie. You will see a status bar loading. There is dedicated space on the UX for this backup so you won't use up any space on your storage card or internal media. This is not automated, so you will have to do it yourself.

I would highly suggest getting a third party backup program that can schedule backups. I use backupman and find it invaluable. Small price to pay for peace of mind.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the instructions..

I'll try what youu suggested and I will check into getting a third-party backup program. I don't want to have to go through what I did before to get my information back!

Thanks DaVinci & Super Fly

Most backup programs for Palm won't allow backing up from card to card.
For the pseudo-memory-stick, "Int. Media", I recommend connecting the UX with "PC Link" and then make a ZIP copy (or use a PC backup program).

If you ever need to send your device in for repairs, the Int. Media will be zapped and blanked before you get your device back. Having a copy of the Int. Media is a great help if that ever happens.

When I do a back-up of my UX50 using Pref> Power Saver >ctrl r >Backup do I then press the "Shutdown" button to run the backup utility?

I use ZLauncher... Does this also backup the information on my Memory Stick and if not... does it at least save all the programs and information I have in the databases which are in the "Launcher" and "Programs" folders so that I can restore them should I lose everything?

When I had my NX, I remember there was also an application called "msbackup" already installed in the pda. I don't know if this application can be made available somewhere ?

After selecting backup you should get a "are you sure" dialog and just hit ok.

No it won't back up your MS, nor the apps stored there. As Art pointed out, the current backup solutions aren't good at backing up cards. (someone please jump in here with an app that will manage card backups...) I normally just keep a copy of the card on my mac.

This can be copied to the desktop with data import, but I never remember to do it. :o I must admit I don't have an easy way to backup IM. It is very stable, and I haven't had a problem.

I have a few 128MB MS I use for backups. I create backups of RAM using BackupMan and copy the entire contents of IM (using McFile) to a folder name IM<date>. As you mention IM is very stable and I only do this when I am doing a serious reconfig.

I have also copied IM to my PC but since one of my computers is a VAIO with a MS drive, the MS is quicker.

I dare to do this! I know what most of you say, some of you take every chance to emphasize this: BackupMan is great, BackupBuddy is crap. I have a different opinion on this and the reason is EXACTLY because BackupBuddy IS ABLE to backup RAM, internal memory and any MS card. Please note that I am talking about BackupBuddy (incl. the corresponding Desktop piece and conduit), not BackupBuddyVFS.

With every Hotsync an automated incremental backup is performed of EVERYTHING, so even if you lose your UX50 including your card(s), you can restore your new device to exactly the same state as before. This is also useful if you do a lot of shareware testing with your device. Simply create a breakpoint before installing new things and restore to the "clean" version after testing.

I am using BackupBuddy for almost a year now and it works very reliably, even includes compression / and or encryption of files.

I dropped by blue nomad to check this out and unfortunitly they don't support osX with POS 5. Doh!

Oh well. I will set a reminder to back up my IM once a week or so. :D
