View Full Version : Eyes hurt?
Hi All
Does someone have the feeling that after reading for hours on TJ37 or other clies/palms eyes start hurting even when you are not reading? I have a computer job so reading books on the clie makes it too much for me? Are there others out there in the same bracket? Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need to see an eye doctor.

Not me. I work at computer 90% of day and read on Clie.
Try different font/colour scheme and see if that helps. Some people at work also use the glare screens on thier monitors which seem effective.

Mine isn't too bad, but my TH55 is runing at minimum brightness and I'm shortsighted; My natural focus is about 1m so I find I can stare at monitors and stuff for longer, but for people with normal vision you will crap your eye muscles up doing this...
TBH, it's not a good idea to look at *anything*, even a real book, for extended periods of time. Give your eyes a break every hour or two, and certainly don't read all day because your eyes will be hurting like hell...!

When I first began to read books on my pda, I did have eye strain. Then someone here suggested, as Edlin has, using a colored background. So I tried it and found that yellow print on a black background works very well with a font size that suits me. You could try playing with it and good luck.

Wordsmith actually has a feature to remind you to take a break every 15 minutes of reading. Eye strain can come from focusing on one point for too long. It is good to look up every so often and look around the room so that your eye's can focus on other things. It's kind of like stretching your fingers back after typing for a while.
I do find that a lower contrast color choice works well. I am partial to a blue background with cyan letters. It is a holdover from my old DOS days.

Another tip I`ve heard is when you give your eyes that break, try and make sure you change perspective too.. ie look through window at horizon.. 'focus close.. focus far'
Autoscroll can be deadly ;) no need to move eyes, or head, or fingers :)

Good Evening-
I too favor a blue background but I go for the white letters...makes me remember the good old days of WordPerfect 5.0.
Oh, and Wordsmith is still the best word processor for the Palm.
