Nikon D70... still playing with it... took a whole slew of experimental shots... haven't tried anything serious yet. Sky is gloomy and miserable and spitting at my new lens... new camera scarey...

I took them, but they were mostly rocks and bushes and clouds... :) playing with color in an old volcanic vent... roads were a mess and folks here don't know how to drive. :)

my computer stopped working when I tried. I think my gadgets get jealous of each other.

Ooooo... Have you slept with it yet? :D (I know for a fact that JackAxe slept with his monitor for the first three nights he owned it)
What are your first impressions of the camera? If I hadn't already been heavily invested in Canon lenses the Nikon would have been at the top of my list.
Now stay home, fix your dammed computer, AND POST SOME PICTURES!
:D

Being sick is no fun. :( Hope you feel better soon. ;)
Take care. And IF by chance you feel up to it, post some pics. :)

just got CMOS fixed and going to boot but not going to hook up drives till I get a new power supply. Back to the camera: it's weight takes some getting used to. I have used a 35mm, but never one this heavy. the buttons and options aren't obvious but they are easy. for instauce bracketing I could find but needed the manual to "finish" seting up, 2 of 3 steps were obvious. once learned, I can enable or change in seconds.

Cool. I've heard that Nikon's menu system is a little better than Canon's. But I suppose it's all new at this point.
What is your feeling on picture quality? I've read that it's superb. Which lens did it come with? (Sorry for all the questions. I'm just excited for you.) I don't personally know anybody that owns one so I'm interested in your opinion. I know you will be thorogh in testing and using the camera.

It's the nikon 18-70mm which is not bad. It got better reviews than the Nikon 70-300mm.
So far the picture quality is pretty good. The color is natural, in other words the desert looks like the desert, not Kentucky. :) One reason I want to get out to photograph something.... By the time I got up the mountain it was snowing/foggy so bad visibility was about 1 block. So I only snapped a couple, roads were dangerous and people here don't know how to handle snow so I decided it would be safer to head back down. snapped a few at one of the cut-away volcanic vents when they cut the road up the canyon. played with the settings for a while, find the bracketing in the book. etc.
The menus are on the same logic, so once I knew how to set options and activate it, I was able to do the same for the white balance internal lighting options without looking them up.

okay, here is my test folder at NikonNet... One is a deliberate photo, drab red with a single green-grey plant. Not very exciting (but then that is normal for the area), but you can see the detail of the 6mp.

The other one there right now is a photo deliberately out of the dynamic range of most cameras. It still handles it well, you can see the reflection of the sun and clouds on the top of my car. However, taking a 1EV +- either side (auto braket) I combined into a HDR image just for fun.... You can see why I want to play with it. the clouds take on an erie feeling and the brick has an interesting texture to it. It was hand-held so the three exposures don't quite match up... I will have to pull out the tripod and try another day.
SamuraiCat,
Congrats on taking the plunge. Let me know your experience w/ it! Where did you end up buying it?

The title image with the little plant looks lovely, upload us some more please(busily generating backgrpuns for his T3...).
BTW, congratulations on your purchase!

I ended up getting it at Best Buy, basically the same price as online, though with a $200 rebate rather than $100 as most online places have. Plus tax of course. But with all major shipping companies giving me trouble lately over shipped packages, I decided against shipping $1000 worth of camera. :)

I just talked with our photo person... I almost brought the camera into work... but I always have this fear of "it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission".... so I asked permission... I will bring in the camera and let him take some photos tomorrow. :)
