I am looking for someone to write a camera hack for the Zire 71. What I need is pretty simple and I'm sure it can be done (since Clievideo's Palm Web Cam can do it.) I just wasn't successful in convincing Clievideo to create a hack for my Zire 71 camera.
I want to be able to lauch the Zire 71 camera by tapping an icon in the menu, just like I'd do to launch any Palm app. The Palm will be tricked into thinking that I've physically opened the camera to take a picture and show whatever the camera lens can see so I'll get right into the camera app.
I want to be able to take pics like I would with the default camera app and have all the settings that the default camera app has (brightness, contrast, size of pic, date imprint, etc). I can take pics with the 5 way button or the camera button, just like it is.
Then, when I want to exit out of the camera app, I can easily tap somewhere on the Palm's display and exit out, all without having to physically close the camera.
Why I'd want something like this, is because, I, like many other Zire 71 owners, am suffering from the broken connections in the Zire 71's internal cable. With each opening and closing of the camera, the bent up internal cable which connects the Palm for hotsync, charging, etc gets more bent and broken, until I guess the whole cable snaps.
So, I'd like someone to develop a hack that I've described so that I can permanently keep the camera out and yet still be able to launch the camera and use all the other apps without breaking the cable any more.
Since there are many people who experience this problem, I'm sure that there may be people who would be interested in such a hack.
