View Full Version : Power48 availability

Hello,

I'd like to know if anyone has heard something about Power48 lately... I got an email from Hildinger where he told me to expect an OS5 Power48 release by mid-february...

I understand it is an open source app and so release schedules are not tight... but I know of a version that can run on OS5 but haven't got it since my cc won't go through paypal (emisor outside US)... if he won't release that as an open source version at least he could post the beta for a fee at palmgear or handango (my cc goes through those without trouble)... the fact that it's GPL doesn't mean that he can't charge for it... just that he has to make the source code available (free speech)... I'd be the first to buy it since I want that piece of software bad... or even better... release the beta as in the open source tradition (free speech & beer) :D

Any news about any OS5 compatible release???

I've been looking for the same thing... i got an e-mail from Hildinger last week... he says there will be a release "in the next few days"... I've been checking the site everyday ever since, but there is nothing yet... in fact... it's gone again... "exceded bandwith..."

Hope to have the new version soon... Living in Guatemala, i have the same problem as you: can't use PayPal (y lo que no entiendo, es porqué seguimos hablando en inglés...)

BTW, my is Carlos too.

intruder, ccelada,

I just wanted to let you know that I am very sorry that the OS5 version of Power48 has been delayed as much as it has. Things keep cropping up in my schedule forcing me to spend time away from the project. Keep in mind that this isn't a company working on Power48 - it's just little old me. When I get delayed, Power48 gets delayed, end of story.

Anyway, I feel very confident now that I've got most of my own personal stuff out of the way and can get Power48 out the door on April 1st. That's not an attempt at an April Fool's joke either, it's just that April 1st will be the next time my web space gets reactivated. I'll also be using some mirror sites so hopefully bandwidth won't get consumed as quickly.

Again, sorry for the delay!

Guys,

I'm sorry but I didn't have the time over the weekend that I thought I was going to have to get the new version / website up and running. Please be patient with me as I am trying my hardest to get the OS5 Power48 out the door ASAP. It might be two or three more days... Again, I'm sorry for the delay.

but the OS5 version is not available yet. I heard it's gonna take one more month!

Actually Power48 is just about finished!!!

The OS4 and OS5 executable and source files are built and finished, the manual is done, and I'm building the web page as we speak. The new web pages will be posted as soon as I'm done, so the new version will be available tonight!

I noticed that... I'm not sure how to fix it - web publishing is kind of new to me! I'm using FrontPage to build the web site. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

Looking at your source code it looks like you are running your own cgi script. That's over my head :/ Havn't messed with cgi before, my earthlink webspace doesn't allow it.

This program would've been awesome if I had my NR70V or NX70V when I was going to college and needed a graphing calculator.

I can see HP calculators are quite popular in latin america... no one from europe or asia has been pushing for the release of power48 as far as this thread goes... strange?

I used a 48GX myself through my whole engineering study... about half of my classmates had one... it is no simple creature... regret to have sold it when I graduated :(

Nice, but as usual, I'm missing a little something. Where's the TI support? Never mind that, the HP's are almost identical to my TI83, only the menues are a little different. Only thing that really bugs me are the keys. Any way to rearrange them to fit my old TI layout?

This is THE BEST HP48 emulator I've ever seen. Better than the original. It works like a charm on my NX and this is going to allow me not to carry my calc, also. I think every HP user should give it a try and let Robert know what you think

THANK YOU VERY MUCH Robert!
You did an impressive work!

it's great to have the best calculator on earth again... i think the TI argument is irrelevant since this software is geared towards the hp calculator...

i even replaced the default calculator buttons :D:D:D:D

thanks again robert!!!

Awesome. I have it loaded on my NX70 and the speed is great.

Anyone have luck with the 49 emulator though? I tried going to go to 49 mode and it froze.

I am used to the 48 SX and GX anyways, so I may never use it, but I am curious to look over the 49.

Thanks for the hard work on getting this app out, it rocks.

I've been eagerly waiting for this since I traded up from an NR70V.

I sent Robert $20 this morning and recommend that you send him something if this program is useful to you. This is QUALITY work.

49G emulation is fine other than it's slow as far as response-time is concerned. if you press the "buttons" it doesn't take all your keys. You might end up loosing something.

Anybody with the same problem?

thx

p.s.
we're talking about details, though. It's a GREAT app!

Thank you very much for all of your kind comments regarding Power48! I'm glad you like it!

For those of you having problems with the 49G emulation, please email me at support@power48.mobilevoodoo.com so that I can try to resolve the problem. In your email, please give me as much detail as possible about your specific device and configuration.

Thanks!

hey robert if you posted your stuff in palmgear or handango as donationware i'd happily pay $20 bucks or so... paypal won't take my cc so i'm kind of screwed in that... as you could see the hp48 is very popular in latin america so it could be a decent source of extra ca$h...

just a thought...

It must have been a success since is down for "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded". I wonder whether development is still in progress and if we might expect a v1.1 release by next month... ;-)

I agree. This is a FANTASTIC program -- tremendously functional AND beautifully rendered!

I have only one problem (and a related request/suggestion for version 1.x :) ). I am also a user of OKey. Since Power48 (in hi-res+ mode) covers the status bar, pressing some of the bottom row buttons (such as [+] ) emulates a press of the underlying "hard key". This of course dumps me out of Power48 and launches the application assigned to that hard key.

I realize that I have a few options:
1) Disable OKey's status bar functions before launching Power48 each time. -- Not very convenient or likely :)
2) Do without OKey's "Hard buttons" -- ditto.
3) Use Power48 in the "compact" mode. -- This is what I am doing now, but this just seems wastful!

- Does anybody else have another option that I have overlooked?

Slinger:
Is there any possibility of adding an option to keep the Status bar uncovered, in exchange for giving up the row of Function keys below the "LCD"? Since the Labels above the function keys already emulate the buttons, it doesn't seem like we would be giving anything up!
And while I'm wishing...
I the Status bar IS kept available, could hide/show graffi button be used to toggle between the full & compact screen modes?

Either way, THANK YOU for all your effort bring us a great tool!

These are excellent suggestions! I'll definitely keep them in mind. I'm aware of the problem with Okey, and I've been trying to figure out a way to resolve that problem, but no luck yet.

Thanks for the ideas!
