Hello,

I just found this AJVMP3 MP3 player (http://ajvmp3.paradise.net.nz/) in the Applications section of this Forum.

Has anyone used it on the SJ33? It handles VBR encoded MP3s!!!!

It's tested on NR70, N760, and SJ20 with the Audio Adapter. What is an "SJ20 with the Audio Adapter"?

I believe the SJ20 did not come with any player or mp3 playback hardware, so there was an optional audio adapter for it. The reason is so the SJ20 could be sold cheaper.

What OS does the SJ33 have? If you decide to try it, make sure you have a good backup of your RAM, just in case.

SJ33 is OS4.1.

I backup nearly everyday to the MS. However, I have the MP3s on the same MS. So if I try the MP3 player and one of the side-effects is MS corruption, well, I'm SOL.

The thing that worries me about this MP3 player is "the warning" and that from the screenshot, it looks designed to run on the NX series.

it's designed mainly for nr70 to take advantage of hires+. but the page says its tested on n760 as well so it shld work on normal os4 clie hires. but i ain't taking any responsibility for any mishaps! :)

btw, anybody knows what's the status of this program? seems development has stopped. i tried emailing the author with some suggestions a while back but got no response. too bad, it looked like a very promising alternative to audio player :(

yeah--i hope development starts up again, if only to remove the date limitations (it tells me that the version i have is expired)

There's a new version (http://ajvmp3.paradise.net.nz) available now with the expiry issue sorted.

Development of AJVMP3 has just stalled, not stopped. Another project with a higher priority has meant that AJVMP3 had to be put aside for a while.

We (ajvmp3 developers) kinda hit a road block when we got our NX70 and found out that sony had completely dropped the audiolibrary in these new PalmOS 5 devices.

What they had implemented for the audioplayer didnt even support VBR mp3's anymore and there were no hooks that we can find to make our player use the decoder.

We're going down the path of putting our own decoder in ajvmp3 which as well as having support for VBR mp3s again will mean we can support other formats (ogg, ape etc) too on the newer OS 5 devices.

hey good to hear that ajvmp3 is still ongoing!

but with your emphasis on os5 devices now, are you going to halt development for the os4 clies? considering the many mp3-playing os4 clies still on sale, i'm sure there's still a decent market for alternative to audio player.

just for playlist support alone, i'm sure many ppl are waiting for this :)

Excellent news, GoosE and [CK], that development is continuing.

Can you tell me whether running AJVMP3 will damage the SJ33 or my MS in any way and whether it will run at all? I'm only aksing this because of that ominous warning on the AJVMP3 webpage.

Regardless, please consider addressing the following limitations[1] of the AudioPlayer for the SJ33, in future versions of AJVMP3 (even if it doesn't run on the SJ33):

Support for Ogg Vorbis codec (you already mentioned this)

Files that cannot be played (bad sampling rate, corrupted,
copyrighted, etc.) should not appear in the playlist. I only want to
see files that can be played.

The "Shuffle" algorithim should check if the song it selects
next is the same as the one it just played. I should not have to
listen to the same song twice in a row.

Need a way to tell the Audio player to refresh the list of songs
(clicking on the image of the MS along the top (see photo, above),
sounds intuitive). For example, if I delete a song via "MSGate" and
switch back to the AudioPlayer, the song still appears in the
playlist. I have to eject and insert the MS for the list to refresh.

We can't tell you that because we haven't run it on your clie. It hasn't blown up any of the clie's we've tried it on and its not a program that writes to the memory stick at all or anything so there's no reason it should. However, the risk is yours.

I've added what we didn't already have of your suggestions to the TODO (making sure shuffle doesnt play same song twice)

I loaded AJVMP3 on my SJ33 and it didn't blow-up!!! :D So you can add SJ33 to the list of Clie's that are known to work.

Is there a way to see/scroll-down the playlist? AJVMP3 assumes a QVGA screen (320x480) and the SJ33 is only 320x320 and I can't see the bottom of the playlist-- it's cut-off.

AJVMP3 caused the SJ33 to "Fatal Error"/reset just like AudioPlayer when I attempted to play a VBR-encoded MP3.

As per the website and readme.

Q) Why can't I scroll the screen to view the rest of the song info or the rest of the tracks on the memory stick?
A) This is planned for a future release.

It doesn't assume a HR+ screen either. I have no idea why you get a fatal error in either program but we havent tried a SJ33 ourselves.
