Is it just me or is the new interface ugly in comparison to last version 2.3? Check out the new interface for MegaCalc 3.0 (http://www.megasoft2000.com/product.php?division=palm&product=MegaCalc). Then check out the interface for version 2.3 shown below.

Which do you think looks much better?

Yeah, that version does seem to have more refined graphics...wonder why they did that?

Here is an email i sent to megasoft

> May I ask why the interface was changed? The one thing that set
> Megacalc apart from all the competitors was the beautiful interface.
> It is now, well to be frank, its plain ugly (not worthy for my PalmOne
> Tungsten T3 Handheld). I am dissapointed to have to revert back to
> version 2.3 so that I may continue to have the prettiest calculator on
> the market. I had planned on upgrading to the PalmOne Treo 650 (GSM
> version) when it became available in my area. If MegaCalc v2.3 is not
> functional on the Treo 650 I will mourn and say my final goodbyes to
> MegaCalc. Then regretably again have to search the internet for a
> replacement calculator application.

Hello,
In the next version we plan to add possibility using skins for MegaCalc.
So, You will be able to choose interface as you wish.
We will make several skins. One of them will similars MegaCalc v 2.3.x.

Anyone else having a problem with their reg code. I get a message that says my reg code is not valid.

In the update from version 2.3 to 3.0 they changed the reg codes. If you were a registered user for version 2.3 you should have recieved an email with subject line:
Now the MegaCalc v.3.0 is available for you!
In that email you should find your new reg code.

I'm sticking with MC2 also, and here is why:

- User Interface now makes "finger" typing near impossible compared with v2.

- User Interface now looks like any of a dozen other calculators out there and looses it uniquness.

- RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) users will do best to stay with v2 also. RPN was treated as an input method in v2. In v3, it's been "isolated" off to it's own mode. Why is that bad? Well, v2 allowed RPN users to use RPN input in simple and engineering modes. Now you are stuck with only the single mode. No way of doing base conversions in RPN, or for that matter, using RPN with the larger buttons afforded by "simple" calculator mode. RPN users pick their calcualors because it DOES RPN, not a calculator that you can only do RPN of "some" things. V2 had RPN input perfect. V3 really is 2 steps back.

- V3 dropped currency conversion. Gone.

- V2 had some "tactile" sound feedback when typing. When I tried V3, that was not there (maybe it is now that it is out of beta, but I only saw a single beta before they shipped it).

I like most of the MegaSoft stuff, and still think that MegaCalc 2.x is the best. But I feel that this update was done for the sake of doing an update. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well, hmmm . . . I have had to change my email address since then. I guess I will email them and see what response I get back.

Does MegaCalc or any calculator do calculations in hour and minutes? I seem to spend hours using scraps of paper to calculate what time something will finish if it starts now and goes on, say, for 2hrs 47minutes. Why don't basic calculators include this function? It isn't as if hours and minutes are (a) a new invention (b) likely to be superseded or (c) easy to calculate mentally.

Y'all are right... V3 is ummmmmmmm "Ugly" to say it as nice as possible. Looks like the graphics were done in Paint or something. Plain darker/dull colors such as the blue/brown/green with virtually no 'gradient' look or 3d look. I mean... it doesn't look "FLAT" but definately needs some serious help.

I agree the V3 graphics are just not nearly as nice ( and I'm being nice ) another downside is it takes up way more RAM on my T3 and although it does now allow rotation to landscape it does not take advantage of it. I am going back to V2 and will wait and see what happens with "Skins", also going to keep my eye on PalmaryCalc, it is identical in functionality ( so identical it's scary...) however it's version 1 release is only 320x320, though future releases will support the larger screens according to and email I got from the developers

I also noticed that version 3 will not close properly on my T5. Instead of closing out when I hit the home butten, it brings up the recent apps list. I have to choose a recent app and close out from there to go back to the main screen......arghh.

Well,
I had a chat with Megasoft and they are fixing the T5 silkscreen problem and will release the update shortly. :D I love happy endings.
