What is required in order to return/upgrade?

Is it just like BB and CC extended warranty program?

Thanks!

Pretty much the same, yet I hear it is much better, they get you into a new pda without many questions at all. I got an extended warranty with my clie last week, when I got it I was told by the manager that it could act as a 1 time upgrade plan, I asked him what he meant and he told me to break the screen when I want a newer model and they will give me the model that is comparable to my t665 for free, or I can pay the extra and upgrade a bit. I don't think that is very honest, but he told me to to do it.

The warranty at circuit city s $100 for the $400 pda.

not worth it, unless I dont know something other people do.

The pda will be $200 in a year.

Enlighten me hehe

the warranty holds its value if you need to use it for any reason...if in 2 yrs you need a replacement, you get the value you paid for... i.e. 30 dollars more to get an nx60 for warranty on n610c from two years ago...
posting via wifi...hehehe I love it!

hi guys,
i got some questions. I bought t665 at circuit city last year with the warranty. Now, I want to upgrade to NZ90. Can I just go to trade it in, and add more money for upgrading to NZ90??

thanks in advance,
bailey

It will probably have to be rendered useless before they just take it back.

But do not break the screen, i cannot quote for other chains but Best buy will not take one back if the screen is broken. And neither will any Mfr. If you are lucky and the techs in store are either busy or none too bright, you can try the "won't hotsync" ploy, but some CS supervisors are getting wise to this, and they do have to verify the problem. If they cannot, then there is no problem, and then there is no service needed, hence, no "upgrade".

Best buy has recently changed its company policy on how to handle PDA's and cell phones due to the large # of people who use their service plans as upgrades.

If they do let you swap the device, the service plan (if purchased after sep 2002) is void, and a new one must be purchased.

If the screen is damaged in ANY way, no return, no exchange, no service and no pity, just sucks to be you if you break the screen.

I would strongly suggest that you read the terms and conditions of the service contract before you "accidentally" break something on it

And the other part i did not mention, the service plan at best buy guarantees equal or better performance, not price, and THAT choice is made by the CS supervisors, and I have been down this road 3-5 times a day for months, it is MY choice which PDA you get, not yours, and your busted a** visor platinum is not even in the same ballpark as an NX/NZ, lemme show you this LOVELY m130

This all sounds ridiculous. I am pretty sure that the warranty means damage NOT caused by human means, e.g. you dropped it so that it has a huge dent in it. It means that it fails with reasonable wear and tear usage. I am very sure that breaking the screen will not be warrantable. Really... I can't believe you guys believe this...

The CompUSA covers ALL damage, including accidental (I posted the exact text of the warranty once, and I'm not gonna waste my time looking for it ;-).  This only applies towards PDA's.

However, they guranteed me the other day, when trying to sell me the plan on a $30 cd-rw , that it is NOT price based. They asked more than 4 people about it too.

In my opinion the CompUSA plan is the best, since it DOES cover accidental damage.

Why don't you get one of these warranties and read ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT and then tell us what it covers!! It specifically says if the clie does not work it is going to be replaced for you, whether it was human fault or otherwise. My friend buys these warranties with every pda purchase from compusa, with in a year something usually goes wrong: he drops it, gets water in its circuitry, whatever, either way he gets a new one. So, experience the warranty before you decide to post such an ignorant remark!!!

hello,

from what i understand there are two pda TAPs - technical assurance program - at compUSA. a general 'warranty' and an upgraded TAP that also covers the screen.

here's what i've been going through with the different salemen at compUSA... if you purchase a pda with a regular TAP and your pda cannot sync correctly or doesn't keep its charge you can use the tap to get a replacement unit.

if that unit is not available, read - not in stock!!! - you will get the replacement unit... example from a sj30 to a sj33. if the sj30 is in stock you will get the sj30 back. check inventory before you try this!!!

if your pda has a cracked screen and you don't have the screen protection you're SOL!!!

so, if you bought the regula tap, $30 or $40, and damage the screen you're up the creek.

i wanna say the tap with screen protection is either $70 or $100 - just can't remember.

hope this helps.

$70 for one year and $100 for three years. I have used the TAPIT plan twice. Once on my T615 that quit reading the MS slot, and once on my NR that I had dropped and broken the screen. The legal papers I got with my plan states that if your unit does not work, they will replace it with a unit with equal function and features. When my NR broke, they didn't have them anymore, so I got the NX because it was the only unit with the camera, Hires+ screen, and keyboard. I saw a post from someone saying that CompUSA has changed the policy, and that now if you return your broken unit you get a gift card with a value equal to what you paid for the unit. I can't confirm this though, I havn't no gone back to my local CompUSA to ask. All I know for sure is what's written in the legal text included with my plan.

As far as "upgrading"... that is going to depend on your local store. Personally.. I buy the plan to protect my investment. I'm not looking to upgrade as soon as something new comes out. That's up to your own judgment. I'm not trying to open a can of worms.

F.Y.I I work at compusa. The Replacement plan is a one time replacement if the PDA fails in any way, shape or form. Including Screen Damage. if it is current product, it will be replaced with current product. THEN you have the option to exchange that product for an upgrade. Just pay the difference. if it is discontiuned product then you will get a gift card for the amount that you payed for the orginial product. either way when you use the plan it becomes void and you need to purchase a new replacement plan for the new PDA. Its a pretty nice plan

$39.99 for 1Yr PDA under $200
$59.99 for 2Yr PDA Under $200

$69.99 for 1Yr PDA Over $200
$99.99 for 2Yr PDA Over $200

I've used it 5 times from a handspring visor deluxe to TG50

yeekdmr. Thanks for the information. Is the gift card a policy for only your store or is that a new policy corporate policy?

The gift card option is company wide as far as i know. but is takes a few days to get one. if has to be approved and activated from corporate. because i work there everything MUST be approved through corporate FIRST. it sucks, but it's worth it. I love my TG50. it kicks the crap out of the SJ33.

Best Buy's PSP covers anything save for physical abuse, like breaking the screen. The Techs DO check every "problem" you say, so dont bother with the "it wont hotsync" idea ;). Broken screen, theft by penguin, or being run over by a bullet-train, are also not covered. (I also checked, damage from EMP of nuclear weapon is also not covered, as it is an "act of war")

But if it does actually stop working, and the techs agree with you, you can get ANY PDA you want, you just have to pay the upcharge. (same for cell phones, btw).

Your PDA is covered whenever it is broken, so it is not a one time thing. Also, if you buy PDA under the price of the first PDA you bought, your future-upgrade-price drops down to that price, likewise, if you got a new PDA which was more expensive. And the plan is renewable... think I got it all... lol

Prices off hand... let me see if I can remember...

$29.99 - 2 year service pan (PDAs $0-$149)
$49.99 - 2 year service plan (PDAs $150-$299)
$69.99 - 2 year service plan (PDA over $300)

Compusa's warranty not for me.

$400 PDA and the 2 years warranty is $100.
unless Im a real clutz I dont think I will drop it any time soon.

In 1 year the TG50 will be worth $200 and I'll probably want to buy the NEW TG series that will be out anyways.

The swap plan at compusmart in Canada is only $40CDN...wow american warranty is so much more. Probably because of a lot of people who on purposely break their PDAs and ask for exchanges.
