JUST GOT MY EB40, WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN RUN TIME. JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW, I CONTACTED SONY JAPAN, THEY TOLD ME THAT I COULD ONLY GET IT THROUGH SONY PARTS USA, THEN I EMAIL THEM AND THE GAVE ME THIS PART NUMBER AND PRICE AND SAID THEY HAD IT.
EXTENSION BATTERY, 175638721 -- $185.95 ea. THIS IS THE SONY PART NUMBER FOR AND EB40. YOU CAN CONTACT THEM AT THE FOLLOWING WEB SITE: http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/web/index.jsp
I KNOW IT IS STILL EXPENSIVE BUT NOT QUITE AS HIGH AS EBAY, YOU DON'T GET THE LITTLE GREY POCKET FOR IT EITHER. GOOD LUCK!!
thanks juicer! i've been looking for an eb40 since i got my ux50 last friday. it isn't the cheapest price, but it sure beats trying to outbid people on ebay and paying more. their stock is on backorder until mid-february, but it's worth the wait! great work!

hey JUICER, is this the same way you got your eb40? i want to get one, but the description on the site says nothing about being the eb40 or for use with the ux50. just wanted to verify before i went out and bought it. thanks.

The Part Number Supplied Was The Sony Part Number, Pega-eb40 Is A Model Number. If You Email Sony Parts And Ask Them For The An Eb40 They Will Send You That Number Back. If You Want To Verify Just Contact Them.
As Far As If Sony Usa, Canada, Etc Has One, I Think Sony Will Source One World Wide. I Think This Is The Means Of Getting One That Sony Japan Was Meaning In There Press Release In Dec.. They Are Not Going To Retail Them But They Will Produce More For Sale Through Sony Parts (hard To Tell From The Translated Press Release). Goodluck!!

Plastic feet?
Plastic feet?
maybe he means the useless greenish clie's accessories plastic box...
they sell it now as spare parts, so no good looking packages anymore, but who cares? :)

No, I'm referring to the 4 rubber 'bumps' on the bottom of the EB40. One can do without.
uh, ok...
now I understand...

Juicer,
What was the total increase in run time with the extended battery? Especially interested re. wifi use, movie viewing & mp3 playing.

I CAN GET 2 FULL MOVIES (1HOUR 45MIN each) AND STILL HAVE 20% LEFT IN THE EB40 WHICH MEANS THE UX50 INTERNAL BATTERY IS STILL FULL. I WAS USING KINOMA TO PLAY THE MOVIES, NOT SURE IF THIS PROG USES THIS "DSP" THAT SONY HAS DISIGNED INTO THE UX. AND FYI MY EB40 CAME WITH THE "FEET". THE BATTERY IS COMPLETE EXCEPT THE GREY POTCH AND PACKAGE AND MANUAL.

You mean that the battery comes without any rubber feet on it? Maybe you got a refurb that had the feet missing - anybody else had this problem?

I believe that I've also posted this info about two months ago, but did not create a new thread for it. Good thinking JUICER, I'm just glad the word's finally getting out. BTW, the person that I talked to at Sony awhile back said that the EB40s that they are selling are on back-order, but then again, that was a little less than a month before Christmas. Anybody have an update for us?
Thanks,

Hey everybody...
I just got off of the telephone with the Sony Parts Department inquiring about the PEGA-EB40.
Incidentally... I had to call twice. The first gentleman I spoke with said that the part number given in this thread earlier didn't exist. He went on to say that I would have to call: (1-800) 488-7669 to order the part if it was available. When I called the number he suggested and explained my plight I was transferred back to my original destination.
I called back and got a didffernet representative who was very helpful. he said I could refer to either PEGA-EB40 or the part number to order the part. He went on to say that the part was on back-order and that it wasn't expected to arrive until the end of Feburary but did add that it could arrive anytime!
So... to make a long story short... it does look as if Sony will be recieving a shipment of EB40's sometime in Feburary although they have no ideal of how many. I certainly hope I'm fortunate enough to be one of the few that get one! The price is $185.95... far less than what they're asking on EBay!

But as we who read other EB40 threads know, Sony will REISSUE the battery in a few weeks, probably for far, far less than the current cost as a spare part. I'd wait and spend 90 USD or so...
Also as to the rubber feet saga: I was referring to the fact if one bought the EB40 as a spare part there would be no rubber feet. I have them. I did not buy it as a spare part.

I can't wait until SONY "supposedly" releases them... If they ever do... at least now I'll have a definite extended battery coming in a few weeks... If they do re-release them, then I'll possibly buy another and have two, but in the mean time I'll have one! Great site and Clie threads, by the way! I just joined today... and got my UX-50 last Friday!

There has been no suggestion they will reissue them anywhere other than Japan, and since the Clie has been discontinued outside Japan I am sure the only official way to get them will be through Sony Service.
Also, I can almost 100% guarantee they will not be available for $90 anywhere, except maybe second-hand, any time soon. Consider the fact they'll cost $120 in Japan, plus shipping to probably Hong Kong, then the USA, then profit for the retailer in Hong Kong (or wherever) and it will most likely be minimum $150, if not more.

Just ordered an EB40 battery from Sony's Direct Parts Access. :) It was $185, with $7.90 shipping. They said it was backordered two weeks, so I am holding out hope. At least it's cheaper than the ones I've seen selling on Ebay.

No, I wish. I usually upgraded to a newer one and disposed of the older ones via eBay. Like my wife says, the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.

I got two EB40s from SOny Parts. Both have rubber feet. The clerk said they weren't included and were extra but mine came with them attached.

Hey you guys, I noticed that some of you knew some of the PART NUMBERS for the parts of the UX. Is there any way you can give me PART #'s for the HOUSING CASES or if you know where to go to get them? Thanks in advance.

hi you guys i am in UK, wonder if i can get an EB40.

You def can from the SONY site, but it might be a little more expensive than you'd like.
Unfortunatly their is no parts division in the UK.
I tried the Sony shops and other outlets but they could not get them either,
finally had to buy one on ebay from Hong Kong.
Best of luck in your search

Lets see, does it makes sense to pay 185 when you could pay around $40 or less for a great battery extender, batteries and battery charger? I had a EB40 and I know first hand that it was great until you used WiFi and AudioPlayer at the same time. My battery extender goes on for hours. I got 7+ hours out of 4x2050mah batteries @ 4.8v total. My battery extender is then labeled 2050mah. The EB40 is 1600mah. 450mah difference. So pay more for 450mah less power? I don't think so.
This is your option, pay more for the size of the battery extender and less power.
Pay less for the bigger size and more power. Everyone that I know that sees my battery extender thinks its cool. I'm able to share music videos and audio with support of my Podwave w/ them. I think you guys should consider some type of battery extender.

JAm, the main advantage though is the portability. I personally would sacrifice some money for a more convenient power source. Granted, I would not pay the $185 for an EB40, but I would def pay $100 for it, like I did back then.
