View Full Version : time to replace my NX 70?

I am a neophyte to this type of forum--not even sure if I am doing this right. I have an NX70v/u and am concerned about replacing it. Previously I owned a Palm that died within a year, replaced under warranty, lasted one more year and finally fried itself in the cradle (sudden pda death syndrome?). I switched to a Handspring and thought I'd outsmart fate by buying an extended warranty from N.E.W...they were terrible to deal with when my Handspring died mid-second year. So I had low expectations for a Clie (maybe my aura was incompatible with PDAs!).
The Clie has been great!! But I received a warning from Sony that the 'replaceable battery' was really NOT replaceable and was going to die someday(how can I tell how long I have left?) I have used this Clie 10-15x per day at least for the last 2 1/2 years! I don't want a critical failure without a backup.
I am sold on Sony, but I heard they no longer make Clies for the US market. I use graffiti (hate those small keyboards!), love a larger screen (even if it's hard to fit into my designer handbags).
What should I consider as my next-generation larger screen/graffiti friendly PDA? I need to keep the OS platform, so my options are limited (I want to seamlessly upgrade, not deal with converting data).

you're in luck! try here: http://store.l-f-l.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?pg=prod&ref=UP503759-NR70
it's a replacement battery for your Clie (obviously....DUH). it also includes instructions on how to replace it. however, i think it requires some 'special' tools. 'special' as in you can buy them at any hardware store near you.

All budgets aside, what functions are you looking for? If you want Wifi, then I'd it's the UX-series, TJ37 or TH55. If you want a big screen, you're gonna be left with the UX's and TH55.
The TJ37 and TH55 for sure have graffiti 2, and most likely the UX's (right guys?). Also, the TJ37 and TH55 have hand writing recognition software, which is really handy when you have to write a lot, and want to write natually. BTW, all three models (UX, TJ37, TH55) have integrated cameras.
Price ranges from about $200-600 (last one is a guess, i think...) USD, depending on where you buy it. however, as we all know, getting sony isn't easy anymore, so you'll have to do a lot of digging for one.
Now, you may not like the idea of going back to palmOne since your last experience, but believe me, palmOne has become a lot better since then (no offense to Palm owners and lovers, just my opinion). it sounds like you're really loving the full screen (480x320) screen, and all that's left in the palmOne line are the Tungstens: T|3 and T|5. Both are d@mn fast and new (T|3 comparatively new at least). however, they're both expensive, IMO. just wanted to give you 2 more options, just in case you want to try something new or something.
hope it helped

Why do you want to change the Clie? I think its the best Clie ever. I just bought one. I am happy with my VZ90 but the NX has got too much features I don't want to miss. This are the cam (as web or spycam), the microphone, the FM synethesizer and its flat stable design. So just replace the battery and keep the NX70

I bought a TH55 last spring when my older NX60 took a floor drop and the screen went out. Love it. I never really got into the keyboard, so, I don't miss that extra weight.
My NX was then resurrected by "violating the case integriety" [don't try this at home kiddies.... except on a broke machine].

NX80 nuff said! More power than all the HHEs, and can be found cheaper. Plus, your old accessories could be used.

Big Sky -- Are you still in possession of your NX70?? Would you consider selling it?? I may be interested.
