It was really a headache for me to transfer Chinese (in Big5) encodings between my Tungsten T3 and Mac OS X via the Hotsync Manager. I haven't tried this solution, but I have been able to do so by using a patch. That patch makes some changes to the Hotsync conduits of my Palm Desktop and does the job. I've got a patch from a friend, so I don't have a web link to it.
Up to now, I still don't understand why they don't fix this encoding problems when the device comes out of the box!

I'm still waiting PalmSource to switch to Unicode for all its internal textual storage, to solve much of the encoding problems.
Just hope that day will come before PalmSource goes bankrupt. @_@

As far as I know, even the newest Palm OS Cobalt has no support for Unicode yet. I don't think it would happen soon.
