I just upgraded from an NX60 to the NZ90. Thanks to BackupBuddy, the switch was virtually seamless! But, the Audio Player is having problems reading the MP3 files from the MS. I noticed that the Audio Player on my NX is 3.0, while the one on the NZ is 3.0.1. Is there something I need to do to get my MP3s to play. (I am transferring them using MS Import/Export, just like before.)

have you tried converting a CD to MP3 and then importing to your NZ90?
I noticed that a few MP3's I've downloaded won't play on my NZ, I get an error something to the effect "this MP3 is copyrighted....". I've had overall good luck though... only a few errors w/ "copyrighted" MP3's.

Yeah, same problem. What worked perfectly on my NX now doesn't work at all on my NZ, when it comes to MP3s.
What is the bit-rate of the MP3's you're trying to transfer? I've had problems using the NZ90's MS Import/Export if the MP3 file is less than 96mpbs. Usually, when I convert CD's to MP3's, I use a bit-rate of higher than 128 - that way, I have had no problems.

They're all 128.
Hmmm??? Don't know what to tell you, other than I am having problems with the ATRAC3's on the Audio Player, and others have had problems with using Sonic Stage to transfer music files. So, I believe there are some "bugs" in the Audio Player on the NZ90 (I had none of these problems with my NX60, and my son has none of these problems with his SJ33).
Did you try downloading the patch that Sony has on their support site for the NZ90? It's for the Audio Player - specifically problems with Sonic Stage, but it might help your problem. Another thing - did you try just putting the MP3's into the MSAudio folder on your MS? I don't know why that might help, other than maybe the problem is with MSImport/Export? Just a thought....

Uh...patch? Doh! I'll try that tout de suite!
>Another thing - did you try just putting the MP3's into the SAudio folder on your MS?
- How do I do this?
My PC has a slot for the MS, so I just insert the MS into the slot, access the files on it using Windows Explorer, then access the folder containing my MP3 files, and drag and drop them into the MSAudio folder located under PALM/PROGRAMS/MSAUDIO on the Memory Stick (Hopefully, your MS is formatted for the Clie).
How are you doing the transfer using MSImport/Export?

Drag-n-Drop-ing the MP3s from the PC folder into the MS folder within MS Export, with MS Import open on my Clie.
Do the MP3's show up on your MS in the MS Audio folder, but just not play? Or do they not show up in that folder? I can't imagine them being in the proper folder, and not playing.
I'm asking only out of curiosity - I've not had this problem at all, even though I am having other problems with the audio player.
BTW, here's the link to the patch on the Sony site:

I had SO many problems with trying to download music to my audio player and called Sony Tech several times. It finally came down to having to go out and buy a Sony Magic Gate MS to replace my plain Sony MS. Now it works fine, but I was never able to transfer music in any file format to the non-Magic Gate MS, even with the patch.

Yes, they show up, and the Audio Player *tries* to play them, but nothing comes out.
Yup, the patch didn't work, either.
Man, I hate to think I have to go buy even more MS's just for this...!
That's really weird - I use Magic Gate because I prefer the ATRAC3 format, but I have used regular Memory Stick media (both Sony brand and Scan Disk brand) to play MP3's on my NZ90. I've transferred them using both MSImport/Export and using the drag and drop right into the MSaudio folder. I have no problems with MP3's at all, in fact, the audio player actually reads the artist's name and song title of the MP3's, but gives me "no artist/no title" on the ATRAC3's. The only reason I don't usually use MP3's is because I get a little smaller file size with ATRAC's, but negligable difference in sound quality. So I can fit more songs on the MS.
I'm sorry, I can't be of any more help. Good luck.

Use L.A.M.E. to re-encode your files. The quality is quite good, even with re-encoded files.
You can get L.A.M.E. here:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/
And the graphical frontend RazorLame here:
http://www.dors.de/razorlame/
Files encoded at 96k/s or above usually work great with NX/NZ (VBR disabled)

Well, don't quite have a technical explanation, but I just went ahead and did a Hard Reset and re-loaded every app one by one (~3 hours :D ). PhotoSkin seemed to have a bit of a problem so I uninstalled it right away. Everything else, including Audio Player(!), is now working fine. Thanks to everyone who offered input!
