Hello,
Is there a program that works like pidirect II for palm os 5.0 available??? Pidirect said they have no future plan on developing pidirect for palm os 5.0 :-(

Nothing exactly like it. There is PowerRun, but VFS-aware launchers, and they are a LOT faster on OS5 devices.

I agree. Between PowerRun for read write databases, and the large support for VFS apps, or apps launched from the card via LauncherX, all are very fast on OS5. Therefore, no need for PiII.

I do wish there was an app you could move JUST the databases with . . . that would be nice.

What is the difference between pidirect II and launcherX?
Hoes does launcherX work. What is VFS?

Basically does launcherX copy files into RAM when launching from the meory stick?
I want to load mapopolis maps that are over 8mb. I only have 7.2Mb left on RAM using PowerRun

PiDirect fooled the PDA into thinking that the one folder on the MS was part of RAM.
I think with the maps, they have to be manually moved into RAM as needed from what others have told me.
I don't use LX, but I do use ZL, but it's not what your looking for.

You can move just the database with LauncerX. But the App has to be VFS aware in order to launch it, which also requires that the Db is moved into the correct folder on the card.

ALL files are copied over from the external card to internal memory when launched. Even if an App says "run the application from the memory card," it still has to be copied over to the internal memory first. This occurs with LauncerX, PowerRun, etc
However, with some apps that are VFS aware, they use indexing like PiDirII. Applications that have the this functionality built in will let you copy Dbs, files, to the card from internal options in the application itself, and usually implies indexing. Examples of these apps are TomeRaider, SloveEd dictionaries, etc. This "quick search" ability is usually highlighted in the features of the application - and one should read the manual to learn how to do so, before posting Qs here. :p:p
