Hi,

I'm having some problems downloading Audible.com books onto my TH55.

I signed up for Audible just before Christmas and was able to download my first book ("Da Vinci Code", both parts) with no problems. It was tedious and annoying that I had to go thru AudibleManager but I could live with it.

Then I deleted the second part with AudiblePlayer to try out the file management. Subsequent attempts to download programs to my CLIE have been extremely unreliable. That is, the transfer would start but my CLIE would lock up/crash at apparently random points. I bought a few more books and downloading them to my CLIE was similarly unpredictable.

I tried Audible's tech support but they had no suggestions/solutions other than to suggest that maybe my MemoryStick was flakey.

My current workaround is to download just portions of the book at a time since that seems to be somewhat more reliable. But it just makes the process even more tedious.

Has anyone else had any success/failure/similar problem with AudiblePlayer/Manager?

I must say that I mostly enjoyed Audible.com but this download problem just about kills it. I couldn't be bothered to babysit the downloading of every 2h of a book...

I tried it out about a year and a half ago when I got my TC and found it to be horrible. You had to queue up your selections then HotSync to load them. It was a pain.

Then last January I decided to give it another try. This time I found it to be much better. The direct access via Audible Manager is much better. However, I have had problems also.

I generally could connect and load directly to my SD card on my TC and now on my T3 without much error for a while, then I start having problems. It will fail to transfer a program and then show all the programs on the card twice on the Manager. A Shift-F5 will refresh and resolve this. I also find that I will add a program but it doens't see it in Manager so I try to add it again but can't. Then I have to try the refresh or delete it from the card with the Palm.

With the latest version I have been having a problem getting the Manager to connect to the Palm at all. It will only work if I exit the Player application on the Palm, plug it into the cable, then re-open the Player application.

I find that putting 3 hour blocks keeps me from having as many problems and keeps the memory required down somewhat.

Unrelated to Audible's software, my T3's headphone jack has become very sketchy. Only pushing the jack one way will make it play, and then only in the left ear. As a result of both the mechanical and software issues I will be getting an iPod soon to resolve this problem. I have been told by a friend with an iPod that it is very easy to do Audible on it.
