Hi all,
I am new to this board, I am happy to find a source I could go to for all my clie needs :) Just switched from Tungsten T to Sony PEG-TG50. Love OS 5, not a big fan of Graffiti, love the keyboard....so I think I am sticking with this one for awhile. One of the great features Tungsten has is the ability to support Audible. Has anyone with a Sony OS 5 unit been able to download and effectively play Audible content? If so, how did you get it to work without errors? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming before you asked this question you tried it on your TG50. What problems did you run into?

Hi Ed,
Great review in Brighthand, you've been doing a great job over there, keep up the good work.
I loaded the Audible Audio player into the handheld, loaded an Audio book in there, the player shows up just fine, the Audio book is in there just like it was for my Tungsten. I press play, and it immediately says the following,"An error occurred in the application you are using. Note the error code, and contact the developer of this application. (Sys 0505) (0, 1115) I press ok, and it freezes up, I can move the little play bar around as if I was seeking to get into a later section of the audio book, but it dosen't play the audio book, and I can't get out of the Audible program without resetting my Unit. That is exactly in full detail what happens. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, I did call Audible, and they said they don't support it. They had initially said that with my Tungsten at first and I had fixed THAT problem on my own......

The audible application for the Tungsten T does not work on the Clie NX series. The audio API's are different, so it will not work properly.
Please see this thread if you're interested in requesting audible.com support.

There's some new info that looks promising.

Thanks Ballistic, great link, and I sent in the suggestion to Audible, hopefully there has or will be headway soon....Audible is such a great feature. With all Pocket PC's, and now PALM allowing use of the feature, I see no reason why Sony wouldn't eventually jump in too.

Hi folks,
I got an official, personal response on Audible support for the CLIE from a "Chief Scientist". Hope this helps..
---------------------------------------------------------------
Matt,
We've been in discussions with Sony for a few months regarding adding
Audible support to the CLIE. The CLIE's audio system is proprietary,
even
on the newer OS 5 devices. Sony has finally confirmed to Audible that
they
are unable to provide the same quality audio playback found in their
own
music player app to 3rd party applications such as Audible. They can
provide some kind of audio playback capability to us, but at a lower
quality.
We are polling a few CLIE owners who have asked for Audible support to
give
us their opinions on the audio quality that Audible could provide if we
used
the capability that Sony is able to provide to us. I have a attached a
couple of WAV files at that quality, one from our daily New York Times
digest, and one from a recently popular audiobook, Three Junes.
I would greatly appreciate it if you would listen to these two samples
and
tell me whether, as a paying Audible customer, you would find this
quality
acceptable.
Thanks very much.
Guy

I received the same letter from Guy Story as above.
I asked him to keep me in mind when they get a beta going.
He replied back saying he would. Audible seems to be very interested in getting their books on our Clies.
My suggestion. If you haven't sent in the form letter requesting Clie support and would like it...send one in now! Let them know in no uncertain terms how much we want this.

I contacted the gentlemen from Audible mentioned in an earlier post. Audible now supports the TG-50. Here is how it works.
"You are in luck – We DO support the TG-50. The site has just not yet been updated to reflect this. If you already have AudibleManager, choose the “Devices:Add new device…” menu option, then choose AudiblePlayer for Sony Clie component.
If you don’t yet have AudibleManager, choose “Get Audible Software” from the left nav bar at audible.com, then download and install AudibleManager for the PC. When you are prompted to choose a device, choose AudiblePlayer for Sony Clie."

I just checked the audible website and it now says they support the clie 5.0 clies! This is great news. I haven't tried it out yet. But just seeing that they have finally done this is wonderful! I don't think I could ask for anything more from my nx80 now...I almost bought the tg50, but mine was on sale and I couldn't pass up such a good deal! ;)

How is the audible.com working on your tg50? Can you bookmark with it, and how is the sound quality? Am only asking because it seems as though since I am a current member of audible, I will have to upgrade to 4.o , which means uninstalling my current 3.5 audible manager etc.

Has anybody else tried audible.com on their clie? And if so, what results did you get?

you could always convert the audible files...which I prefer. See this thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37635).

I haven't yet used enough to try out bookmarks but the sound quality isn't what I had hoped for. Good enough for a book I suppose but unacceptable if you were listening to music.

Went to the audible site and found two pieces of s/w, one for Clie using version 5.2 and up and another for devices using 5.0 (for Tungstin, etc. but Clie not listed there). I tried D/l the software for the 5.0 devices and it installed in my TG50 but would not connect with the Audible Manager SW. Any suggestions? May just have to stay with my Audible MP3 player. Hmmm....

Here's what I did....go to audible.com and click on the link at the bottom left side of the page-"Visit Our help Center". Then click on "Find an Answer". Look down the list for "Updated-What devices are presently supported etc. There is says that the sony nx and a bunch of others are now supported. You need the newest version 4 of audible manager to actually use the nx. Now I haven't tried this so I don't know if it actually work on the clie. If anyone tries it, please let us know!!!!

Make sure that you activate your tg50 AT THE Audible.com manager site. It won't make the connection on the device until you do this activation. Then it works. If this does work for you, then also download clie Pets new audio files. They really do make the sound much better on the clie. Thats what I did and I love listening to my audible books now! If I have not made myself clear, post a question and somebody will be able to answer it for you.

I have gotten the Audible sw to work in my TG50! What a nice addition. Now, What are the Pet files you mentioned and where can I dl them? The audio right now is 'fuzzy' but listenable. Anything would be an improvement.
Thanks in advance.

fkiehner, I posted this earlier today, but think I put it on wrong posting place. Anyway, go to this thread MCA 2.02 (beta) in the nx series section of this forum. Everything you need is there. Even the download link. Let me know how it turns out for you.
Hello everyone!!!
For those of you wondering if you are able to listen to Audible books, etc... using your Sony Clie TG50.... YOU CAN!
I was able to download the software and install it on my Sony Clie effortlessly and it works beautifully. I've downloaded the Commission Hearings of Condoleeza Rice which was offered at Audible.com free of charge to test the software and it works flawlessly!
Now... before I carry on too much.... there is one area that concerns me. After I've transferred an Audible file to my Sony Clie using the Audible Manager Software my Hotsync Icon disappears and I have to reboot my computer to get it to re-appear. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so... what was done to rectify it?
Thanks, Gman!
