sheesh... I had 3 strange shutdowns today... and finally found the problem, the hard way.... the electrical cord to my PC.... it is replaced, but I have NEVER lost a powercord before, and I lost it today, when I am majorly behind schedule and doing work for work.... sheesh....

If something can go wrong, it will wait until the most inconvenient time to go wrong.

Problem: Computer will not turn on.
Solution: Check that power cord is plugged in.
I never heard of a power cord goint before. Was there an obvious problem with it like fraying, or it just wont work?

well, other than a smell of melted rubber... though I didn't see any burned spots that were obvious... it just wouldn't work. Tried moving the plug on outlets, then swapped another power cord....
I'd ask why it is always the last thing you check that is wrong.... but we all know the answer. :)

okay... it happened AGAIN!!!!
I heard it last night... the UPS beeped, the computer shut down and refused to come back... again.. the power cord won't supply power, though I can't find any scorch marks and don't smell burned anything.... but it works fine with a new power cord...
Something REALLY wierd is going on...
what do you folks think? better UPS? replace power supply on the computer? Aliens are abducting my power cord to do strange experiments on them? My alter-ego who parties at night at the Casinos is using my power cords for innappropriate uses?

I'd replace the power supply. The next time you find out about it will probably when you come home from work and see the fire trucks outside your apartment building.
