some things will run in the very simple DOS emulation, I assume she already tried? If you need a more complicated DOS emulation (sound, graphics, timing, etc.) there is an open source project that is designed to emulate a 80286 running DOS, sound, graphics, etc.

My company used a DOS application called "Versa Form" for years on an old 486 machine.
(No help available for it whatsoever.)

We recently retired the machine, but it was my job to move the program over to the new P4 WinXP machine and set it up to run.

Unexpectedly, eveything worked just fine in a DOS window or full screen, even down to running the Dot-Matrix printer we use for our outdated 5 part forms!
(Luckily I done came up DOS, so I spreckenzie the lingo) ;)

Long story short, I think XP is better for some DOS stuff than ME or 98SE was.
I don't claim to know why, it just seems like it.
:)

BTW
I was able to talk my boss into a copy of QuickBooks Pro, so Versa Form for DOS is on it's way out!

the main problem that i asked her today was .......

1. she wanted to run a program on her office server .. which the program could only run on dos .. link from the network .. for all OS except window XP .. kinda weird .. it's too bad that she changed her window XP to window ME before i got there .. i was about to test it first on XP ..

2. it was so damn hard to find drivers for window ME for her new laptop .. ACER doesn't support her laptop for window ME .. only window 2000 and window XP .. geez .. i'm gonna put window 2000 for her tomorrow ..

ps .. she couldn't link or call her program from the server .. she called the software company and the company told her that the software wouldn't work on window XP .. only that version .. that's why, i gave up on window XP .. i wouldn't dare to try it .. it's gonna waste my time for nothing ..
