Hi,

How many of you upgrade from a PDA to Treo650?
And how many of you upgrade from a cell phone to Treo650?
Depending on which path you took, you might have different feelings
towards the new toy. For those who owned a PDA before, you might
find yourself not able to run your usual apps on Treo650. For those
who never owned a PDA, you might find the Treo very fasinating.

I am an NX owner and is thinking of upgrading to a Treo650.
Do you think I'll be disappointed by the upgrade?

Other smartphone on my mind is the XDA II mini.

Your comments will be very much appreciated.

I was just released (12 mos early) by Nextel today and I am starting to do my research. I have an NX 73 and use Nextel. I will be getting new phone service soon and I really want a 650. DO I wait for Verizon of do I go for Sprint right away?

I have been a nextel user since 1999 and I have two months left out of my contracts. I'm actually quite happy with their service/reception in my area (San Francisco Bay Area). However, I love the Treo 650.

I've alot of research to find out it's flaws, they're some (ie: low memory, no wifi and so on) however overal it's the best smartphone ever, nothing comes even close. I have read most reviews on it too.

Now as far the choice for carrier, I personally like to wait for the gsm version to come out on cingular. Why? because gsm is the global system, meaning my phone will work all over the world since the treo 650 gsm is a quad bander. Second, gsm (meaning cingular and t-mobile) consumes less juice than cdma (meaning sprint and verizon).
Also most everybody I know is either on cingular or on AT&T (now cingular anyway) so my calls to them would be free. Verizon has that too. The cingular version is suppose to come out soon. Sprint is alreadt out and t-mobile and verzion later, at least that's how it was when the treo 600 came out (last year). So my friends the choice is yours, regardless of the carrier it's a great smartphone and you'll be happy with it.

I hope I have answered all your question, then again these are my personal opinion others might disagree with it which is perfectly find.
cheers, :D

I am currently using a PalmOne Tungsten T3 and a Motorola V600. I am looking forward to merging these into one device Treo 650. But I must have the GSM version since I am with Cingular and their service has always been great, and all my friends/family are with Cingular (free Mobile to Mobile).

:rolleyes:Your real question is: do I stay with Palm or move (NOT upgrade) to a PPC smartphone. I'm in a similar situation with a long time use of Palms (currently with a NX80 that I've had going on two years and like more each day). Another question you have to ask yourself is: how do I really use my NX? Games, MM, communication, or as a 'PDA'.

I've started a thread and jumped into others discussing the merits of Palm vs PPC. I have yet to see a description of a PPC attribute worthy of making the switch. The oft cited phrase is 'its the future' ............. but when pushed, those using the PPC smartphones have no specifics. There is just nothing a PPC smartphone does that a Treo 650 wouldn't do, and the 650 currently has the best form factor.

Now, if you are a routine user of WiFi (I'm an occasional user at home and in airports) some PPC phones come with built in WiFi. You have to be a pretty big user of WiFi to have that weigh in heavily.

Cost of admission? Slightly less for the T650. Cost of apps ......... not enough to worry about for either. Toss-up.

For me, the screen on the 80 would be hard to give up. I use it for Excel, and Word all the time. As great as the T650 screen is (and it really is), it can't compare to the size and brightness of the 80. Again, it depends on how you use your NX.

Does anyone know of a PDA phone that uses the Palm OS that has the larger screen size (320x480)? I am also looking to get a PDA phone, but I love the screen size of my NX73. I also have no use for the little built-in keyboard. I have never used the one on my NX73, besides experimenting with it when I first got it. To me, it's a waste of hardware and space.

Advice?

Not that I have read/heard. i thiink they just recently released actual pictures of this product. I think I read here in another post that Samsung might be releasing a Palm OS smartphone too. Decisions Decisions!
