Hello, i am considering buying a PEG-NX80V. simply so that i can use it as a PDA, and use the CF expansion slot for a wireless Lan card (sony's WL110)

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys and girls can help me out with some info.
I want to stream music from my pc to the clie with the wireless network, but im not sure if its possible.

Could you please enlighten me

Best - Aaron

With Pocket-Tunes (http://www.pocket-tunes.com/) and MCA (http://aibohack.com/clie/modclieaud.htm) (thanks to CliePet) you can stream SHOUTcast (http://www.shoutcast.com) music.

I find that using my NX70V with the wl110 and streaming from PC using Shoutcast though possible realy very poor, I usualy have to limit the broadcast to around 28Kbps, which is extremely poor quality. I personally belive (though have no first hand experience) that Pocket PC is the only real contender for streaming audio at home as it can access mp3 directly over a shared network and I'd imagine support play list, this arguably is not true streaming but the streaming is to support multiple clients no point if its only one person/device ever listening.

But-

Wifile supports accessing MP3 directly but I belive the overheads of running MCA make it unusable so you need a plam device with the standard palm sound api built in. I.E. TH55, this device probably supports better bit rates with shoutcast again because it doesn't have the MCA overheads.

PS don't get me wrong MCA is amazing without it Pocket Tunes would not run and I'd not beable to listen to WMA files, also games like snails etc would be a lot less enjoyable, but the poor old NX series simply can't keep up running wifi and MCA plus apps running in foreground aswell as background. Bless it!

Anyways long story short, If this ability is realy important to you I'd get a palm device that offers wifi but has the standard palm sound api built in or look into Pocket PC devices.

Aaron- why are you looking at the NX80?
IMHO, the TH offers much more, unless you are hookied on the keypad entry.
In either case, just get a 1meg MS and forget about streaming, just load up the card with YOUR choicest tunes.

Pop me a IM if you go ahead with the 80. I have a WL100 and a CF multi-reader that I would let go.... left overs from my NX60 days.

Well, Thanks for your replies,

[QUOTE=Cheechwhiz] Aaron- why are you looking at the NX80?

I was looking at the NX80, because, quite frankly, thats the only one i saw on ebay. I currently have a Clie NR70v, and have never, ever looked back. However, some of the programs i need utilise, and/or require palm OS5. So i need a Clie with that sort of functionality. The fact that Would like it to stream wirelessly would be a major advantage though.

Thanks for telling me about the TH, I just looked it up, and i appears to be quite an impressive unit. I thought that the only way to get WI-FI was with an external CF card. It is rather expensive though.
