Hello - my first post here, but I'm a long timelurker!

I bought my new T5 a couple of weeks ago to replace my dead T3. I love the lack of slider, memory, drive-mode, non-volatile memory etc of the T5. But, there's a couple of things I'm not happy with...

...the plastic case. It creaks and feels (not looks) cheap. My T3 always made me thnk 'wow, cool'. The T5 doesn't. Not much I can do about that tho'. Not a biggie.

...Now the thing that is really bugging me. It's slow to respond to screen taps and swipes. Sometimes I hit the 'home' button and there's enough of a delay for me to tap it again. Graffiti is slow. I think this is partly intentional in that strokes are buffered to see whats coming next. But I'm sure it's partly just slow.

I tried doing fast squiggles in notepad to see if the T5 could keep up. It didn't large gaps appeared where the T5 couln't keep up. Tried it on my old (sometimes dead) T3 and the wifeys Zire71 and these were faultless.

Programs seem to run fine. The unit is very stable - no more resets than the T3.

Why is my 416MHz PalmOS so slow??!!

Is it just mine?

Will there be a fix? (Ok - who knows)

I have 2 days left to return my T5 and I'm very tempted to jump camp and try PPC (one of the new Ipaqs?).

Whaddya reckon?

Right thats the end of my first post - sorry it's a bit verbose..!

Bloney, no it's not just yours but I'm quite sure it's not a permanent setback. The new memory architecture has played havoc with many applications and developers are having a tough time recoding their apps to be 100% compatible. Some apps seem to work fine at first then bog the T5 down to a slow crawl and, in many cases, constant crashes - especially during hotsyncs. I expect there will be patches released that help devs overCome these issues. A few have already fixed their apps and are running just fine on the T5. I've recently been searching for a T5 friendly backup app and what a royal pain in the @ss thats been. I finally found one that gave me no headaches - TealBackup 1.08. Many devs claim to be T5 compatible but aren't really there yet. Also, removing these problem apps still leave a lot of junk files behind that only further complicates things.

I finally decided to start from scratch. I did a hard reset, loaded the current PalmOne patch, Loaded Uninstall Manager 2.62 (to monitor all installs - every file -) and reinstalled the apps I was pretty sure were T5 friendly. I'm much more careful about what I put on it and only test one at a time for 3 or 4 days before I even consider it as a keeper. I dont have any drag and my hotsyncs always complete without a hitch. I've run across quite a few hostile apps but Uninstall Manager dumps every single associated file and gets me back up to speed.
It's up to you but I'd hang on to it until the kinks are worked out (and they will be) I suspect T5'ers will be glad they did. :)

Hello,

Thanks for your replies. I'm afraid I've ditched the T5 (got a refund <14days :) ) and jumped to the darkside and got an Ipaq hx4700.

I was VERY worried about 'moving across', as I've been (still am) a Palm fan for a few years. There's a lot of negative talk about PPCs around here (not surprisingly!), so I was quite nervous.

But, wow! I love it! I do miss the T3/5 - the 4700 seems low on memory all the time. All that bloated windows stuff!

So, I guess this is goodbye! (I'll still stop by for a lurk frequently tho'!)
