After searching thru multiple telecom and Palm OS forums on how to connect a Nokia 7210 and NX70 on AT&T's GSM network using the infrared ports, I found a great site that walked me thru the whole process: http://support.attwireless.com/awswls/support/devices.jsp
Now, I am able to surf the web, send and receive email, etc. using my IR connection! The walkthru is very clear with screenshots and explicit instructions. Also, it has walkthrus for other phones and wireless devices as well including laptops, blackberries, etc.
A couple of tips and a word of warning:
1. GSM should already be activated on your GSM phone (if you can connect with mMode, then it is).
2. The Signal strength on your cell phone should be at least three to four bars (GSM requires a stronger signal than voice calls)
3. Using your Clie to surf especially with graphics on requires a lot of bandwidth. And since AT&T wireless charges $.02/kilobyte, this can add up very quickly.
Finally, I checked with Technical Support and found out that you cannot use your cell phone as a regular modem and use voice minutes on AT&T's GSM network (supposedly there is a way to make this work on the TDMA network) because AT&T has decided to turn this option off.
Good luck on connecting!
BTW, there is no physical cable that connects the 7210 to the NX70 according to the good people at TheSupplynet.com because the 7210 does not support "tethering" so I guess we are stuck with IR.
