Can you believe anyone in their right mind would print this crap?

Thanks SONY!! (you fuggin' losers) We should be able to buy a comparable Memorystick for the same price as an SD card. What the hell is wrong with SONY? I would like to ask everyone who reads this to NOT purchase any additional memory media from Sony and perhaps they'll get the message that corporate idiocy is not a platform for running a business. I'm absolutely appalled by this blatant display of arrogance and you should be too.

What do you need the Sony sticks for anyway? I use a Sandisk thats about 1/3 of that price (130 dollars).

WOW...SONY needs to wake up and smell the competition

Sandisk is the way to go. Way cheaper, and I've never had a problem with any of mine.
Of course, I agree that it would be nice to see the overall price of Memory Sticks come more in line with other flash memory. ;)

Interesting. I have a Sandisk 1GB. That being said, you can get a Sony 1GB MS Pro at the Sony Store for $209 Cdn, which is expensive, but not completely out of line. I think the above add is just one data point, and would encourage people not to draw any specific conclusions from it.

I run a gaerman brand called HAMA in my Palm. However, since I do not have Clie but a PalmOne Tungsten, I have cheaper SD memory-NAHNAH;-P
However, my palm needs to go to service every two weeks. So, whats better??

uh what sony store is this? I look on sonystyle.ca and find only hi speed 1GB memory sticks (which go for $299 CDN)
Which area did you see these in? Which 1gb MS were they? the one pictures above or the black ones?
I'll snoop around @ Toronto sony stores but they are notoriously out of stock on pretty much everything...

I went off mainly because of the irony and audacity of the ad itself. Heck, even the 4 GB SD card dwarfs the GLORIOUS AND ALMIGHTY SONY 1 GB MEMORYSTICK in price!!
If I were SONY, I'd be embarrassed with this pathetically overpriced product. The price on this particular memorystick hasn't changed much in all of the time it's been out. Sure, it has dropped from it's initial $500 or $600 price tag, but only because SONY discovered through their collective infinite wisdom that we're not as stupid as they think we are.
Hey SONY??? Pull yer fuggin' head out, will ya?
(the store is MobilePlanet (http://www.mobileplanet.com/listing.asp?cat_id=106&pdept_id=900021&dept_id=1447&dept_name=Memory%20Stick%20Storage))

I see the $299 CDN price online at sonystyle as well...
That being said, the ad in the original post seems WAY out of line, as you can find 1 gig MS for around $120 online through pricewatch. Of course, this is Sandisk as well. Even sonystyle.com (US) has 1 gig sticks for $150, or $350 for the hi-speed.
With their pricing, I'd highly recommend NOBODY buy their MS media from mobileplanet.com. ;)
EDIT: Just wanted to add that I don't even SEE the Sony white MS in the listing on sonystyle.com or .ca - double ;)

That is one reason why I warn people when they buy electronic device, make sure you look around for the price of accessories.
I avoid Sony for the simple fact that (1) The cost of storage is significantly higher compared to SD/CF etc. (2) It's a proprietary standard, so plugging it limits the market competition.

Hmm. I see a 1 gig MS for US$ 117 over at eCost.com. Where the heck is a place sellin' the same thing for four hundred and fifty bucks?
http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/search/search.asp?id=114030000&search=1GB%20Memory%20Stick
<EDIT> I just realized that on the same ecost page I posted there is a white 1 GB MS at the bottom selling for 500 BUCKS!! What the hey!?? Someone please explain the difference in the two that would warrant a 400 dollar difference in price.

I don't recall for sure, but I think it's just the MagicGate technology, and the white MS were the first to be released. Since sonystyle doesn't even show them on their website anymore, I guess retailers are just trying to get rid of them without taking a huge loss...

But ya gotta wonder why Sony is still trying to get $450 for them if they are trying to get rid of them...a $350 price variance is hard to process.

I agree that Sony's Memory Sticks are generally too high in price, but I think the ad pictured in the first post must be a mistake or some sort of hoax. Iwent to Sony's website http://www.sonystyle.com and found the following two interesting MS items tagged as "new" that may help sort out some pricing:
1 GB Memroy Stick Pro MSX-1GS (up to 15Mbps) for $150 (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MSX1GS&Dept=acc_MemoryStickMedia&CategoryName=acc_MemoryStickMedia_MemoryStickPROmedia)
and
1 GB High Speed Memory Stick PRO™ Media MSX-1GN (up to 80 Mbps) for $350 (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MSX1GN&Dept=acc_MemoryStickMedia&CategoryName=acc_MemoryStickMedia_MemoryStickPROmedia)
So a 5X speed factor is what distinguishes these price levels.
Of course, the nice thing about Sony is that if money is not an issue you can go hog-wild with such choices as:
2 GB High Speed Memory Stick PRO™ Media MSX-2GN (80 Mbps) for $700 (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MSX2GN&Dept=acc_MemoryStickMedia&CategoryName=acc_MemoryStickMedia_MemoryStickPROmedia)

Nope, no hoax. I scanned the image meself last night straight from their hardcopy catalog. (Unless the catalog is a hoax)
Perhaps they're just a squirrelly organization.

Darn Smeggie, I bought one of these a month ago for 130 from Compu-Plus. I wish I had waited. Well, its only 26 dollars difference. Compu-Plus is very quick and I havent had any problems with my card yet.
At least there is something right with this picture.

Well look at it this way...
At least you didn't buy it from SONY!! :) Thanks for the positive feedback on COMP-U-PLUS because their return policy or rather, lack thereof, had me a bit worried.
$100 is where that card should be priced and the 2 GB stick - $150. I'd even consider buying a 4 GB memorystick if it was around $200. But I'll tell ya...there's nothing I hate more than when a store or a vendor thinks they have ya by the old cajones.
Well, there's a couple of things I hate more but we'll just let a sleeping dog lie...
