My friend lost all her datebook data that was more than a week old. In trying to help her I looked around the desktop and to my horror found (in Palm desktop 4.1) under [tools\purge events] a setting that deletes anything older than a week (at most it was only a month)!

Questions:
1. Why wasn't it activated for my clie? Most people I know have all their old datebook info intact.
2. Why isn't it an option that you can turn on/off?
3. When my stuff is archived, does it only archive stuff I deleted on the desktop, or will it archive even those on the Clie?

I wrote to Palm Inc. about it but still not have received an answer. The most I found about it was this:

I just realized that the 'Purge Events' thing is not an option for a on-going setting. It is just a one-time purge for events, which can be done either on the PDA or desktop. I guess somehow my friend activated it on her handheld and when she hotsynced, it happened. The funny thing is that even her backup *.bak file of her datebook didn't have her old stuff, even though she is sure she only hot-synced once and had the problem.
