I logged on to Sony's developer site last night and discovered who makes the I/O connecters for CLIE. It is a company called Molex and thier CLIE parts are:

Cradle/Docking Module
55857-1890

Handset Receptacle
51252-2011
(CLIÉ™ PDA side connector)

Cable Mounted Plug
51255-1801
(Adapter connector)

I ordered some free samples and when I get them I will try to connect a BT chip to it, what I mean is I could use the port on the bottom of a CLIE for BT connectivity. I'd just need someone to help out with drivers. I can't believe Sony hasn't looked into this yet.

Don't forget that the NZ90 already has built-in Bluetooth. Hopefully will be available in Europe soon.

Good Point, but not all people want to get an NZ90 (like me) and the BT mem stick has no extra memory :(

If you connect a bluetooth chip through the serial port, you are going to bottle-neck the bandwidth of your connection. I don't know the numbers, but I think bluetooth is faster than a serial connection. I'm not sure though, can someone with numbers fill me in here?

Even Sony's Bluetooth Memory stick just emulates a virtual serial port so you're stuck at 115k with either method. Yes BT is capable of higher speeds but a lot of places still just use a serial port emulation.

Ok, cool. Thanks.

I'm reasonably sure that BT is capable of 723kbps, I THINK. So yeah, its about 6.something times faster than serial.

The USB on Dragonball is just a serial to USB conversion, as there is no USB chipset inside the PDA that drives by the Dragonball.

Also Sony has the first version of BT 1.0 using the bottom universal connector, but seems Memory stick is more perferred.
Stupid or not depends on different view point.

just a 2 cents.

if anyone builds one, and it works with the NR70V and is significantly cheaper than the Bluetooth option... I know which I'd take (to keep memory in the Memory Stick slot !)

NOT upgrading to an NZ90 ... too expensive, too big, and no confirmation that it will be PalmOS6-able :-(

It seems next version of CLIE will have the USB host chip set build in such that you can plug in any USB device, include USB BT Dongle then. If you wait for someone to build, let us know the solution.

still hunting for a BT solution I can use both with my Clie (NR70V) and laptop (C1MT / Picturebook - has USB, one PC Card slot, no IrDA)
