I am using my NZ-90 with a T68i bluetooth phone on ATT wireless. I have Clie mail configured to get mail from my POP company account but because our server doesn't allow incoming mail from a mobile device I need to get a SMPT outgoing mail server that will allow me to configure so emails sent from my handheld have my company return address (xxxx@2k-plus.com). I know there are some out there that you can rent by the month or year and I would appreciate it if anyone has a suggestion.

Thanks,

Richard

use:

mail.attbi.com

I'm sure is not the best idea but it works. I have used it for my many mail clients for about 3 years. <g>

Hi Gary,

Don't mean to sound dumb but what is mail.attbi.com? Is there a www site to set this up?

Thanks for any help

Richard

It's a pop3 incoming mail server

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's an old trick to be able to send e-mail from devices like the Clie.... and also works with desktops when your mail server provides a way to recieve mail but not send it.

It's just a server to send mail *through*, when you set up Cliemail you have two servers a POP3 and an SMTP.

Think of POP3 and SMTP as "channels" it's pretty easy to understand that way.

POP3 is where you GET your mail and should be the mail server that your paying for, and normally requires password authetication to use.

The SMTP is the server that SENDS mail, and normally does not require a password, so you can use other servers to send your mail through.

As time moves on and Spammers use this for bad things you are going to find fewer SMTP hosts like this, but for now mail.attbi.com is open to send mail through.

I do not beleve the amount of mail you are going to send via your Clie is going to make enough of a bandwidth dent to even be noticed.

For instance... The outfit that hosts my website gives me a POP3 server but NOT an SMTP host. SO that leaves me on my own to find a way to Send e-mail, no big deal really they are really easy to find if you know what your looking for.

Hi Gary,

I too have the same setup with my company mail boxes provided by web host for outgoing I use my ISP providers mail server when I am in the office (mail.bellsouth.Net). I tried using the mail.attbi.com for SMTP but the server wouldn't let me access. I wonder do you need to set up an account or log on with a password?

And it connects just fine.... hmmmmm
