View Full Version : NX70 and Linux sync
Hy,
I know this is not the Linux corner but there no one responses:
How about transferring Office Docs under Linux to my Clie?
What about a suitable Office program anyway?(For the Clie running with a Linux Desktop).
Or would I be better on with a Tungsten T?
I think drivers are available for the MS and the Palm so the Office thing is far more interesting to me.
I wouldn't change since all the apps are mostly accessible in Windows(all these exe-files to install, it's a pitty) but TCPA is coming and I don't want to support that anymore..
I run Linux. For office, I use OpenOffice, saving as Word 97/Excel 97 files. I purchased QuickOffice Premier, which allows me to read the .doc and .xls files from the memory stick.
I really like QuickOffice Premeir, but it isn't cheap at about $50. And I've had some issues with files not opening correctly. I believe it's still in beta, so those issues may be solved.
Now, I did run into some problems. I had to change and recompile a module to get my NX70 to sync. I purchased a SanDisk MS/CF USB reader/writer, and had to recompile yet another module to get that to work. And I still seem to have problems with it -- it sometimes crashes the Linux box.
You don't sound like a person who's used Linux a lot, and while I'm willing to tell you about what I've done, if you don't feel like you know enough to recompile modules and your kernel, Linux may not be what you want to run.
I honestly have no idea whether or not the TungstenT is better supported under Linux. I suspect that like the NX, it'll work. It may take a bit of configuration, though.
Sean.
Yeah You are right I am a newbie. But I am willing to lean how to recompile and adjust Linux to my needs.
Well the TT has the possibilities to use PamlPilot provided with StarOffice.
Sure I will run into problems, these obstacles could be overcome, though. Or at least i hope.
I am very interested in what you did to get the Clié running. Okay I am running into problems, but I think with your help, time and good will I make it. It wasn't easy to start with Windows either.
So which distribution you are running?
thank you for your reply
