Don't know why, but anything that goes in my ear is extremely painful. I decided to go wireless at the house to upgrade from my old headphone plus extension that is too awkward to really use.
I am skipping a fancy speaker system for now, and sticking with headphones. Getting these after some reviews here and there. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRDS3000&Dept=acc_Headphones&CategoryName=acc_Headphones_VirtualDolby%2eDigital

Whoa. $300 for so-so headphones that require you to have line of sight? If the in-ear thingys bother you, try for some koss headphones. They're not bad.

Infrared is clearer than the RF from what I read, less crackle in the wireless transmission. Line of sight isn't bad, I am not going to listen to Lord of the Rings in another room. ;)
That I didn't pay $300 for them. :)

ouch.... why would I return them? No, they have not arrived yet. I may eventually get a normal wired one in addition to the wireless, but I expect to keep the wireless if they are at least as good as the Sennheiser wireless that came with my laptop.

Listen to the man, return them. :D Sony is pooooo for all headphones, it took me a few, but I finally heard the light. :)
I'm still extremely happy with those Sennheiser. My friend bought some Sony's tried mine on and then returned his vomit that day and orderd the street style Senhisners.

You might want to try out plantronics - my friend gifted me a headset (with mic) .. i dont have any use for the mic but the sound quality is quite good and nothing goes into your ear ..)

actually the headphones work very well.... good clear signal to the 45 degree mark as stated. I miss not hearing the virtual surround. When I can afford a good digital AV receiver, home theatre system with digital output, I can use the true surround sound of the headphones. I may do that in a few months. Works very clear for wireless. Better than the Sennheiser wireless I have at work for the laptop. I like infrared wireless better than RF. Too many other wireless RF products that cause interferance in the area. Now I can turn up DVDs if I want. :D

Those headphones sound pretty cool. Would you be able to say where you got them for less than the price on sonystyle? My speakers are pretty cheap and these headphones might actually be a higher quality audio experience when I am the only one watching my system and don't need the main speakers.
When it comes to the surround sound of the headphones, it says on the site that the base unit has dolby digital, DTS, and other decoders built in. Why couldn't you simply plug the optical output of your DVD player into the base unit and get surround sound that way (I am presuming that your DVD player has optical out and not only coax)? It doesn't seem like you would need an AV reciever if that is what you want to do. No good AV reciever is going to change the bitstream from it's digital input to it's output anyway.

my DVD player's digital output is "coax" (copper) and the Sony is fiber optic. So I can't yet. If I replace the DVD or add a receiver than can do it all... I can handle it.... :)
and I used ebay... the guy shipped slow... took two weeks and I was very very frightened, but he has a store on ebay and good ratings for many items, so I thought it was a decent risk. $168 with shipping, Walmart also carries them at $225 before tax....

i'm glad you're happy with your headphones, samcat, and i wish you years of enjoyment from them.
currently, one of the most well-reviewed wireless headphones is the Pioneer SE DIR800C (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4171_108990338,00.html).

Nice, yours has the co-ax digital that I could have used.... oh well. :) otherwise they claim to be about equal in spec, wish we could get them side by side to compare, then everyone could benefit from the results.

Did some browsing around.... I haven't found one professional review of both from the same person. and a lot of conflicting information. The ones that like the Pioneer most even brag that it is Rf instead of IR which is rediculous since both are IR. Plus I would rather have IR than Rf anyhow. :) Others claim Sony has a deeper Bass, while Pioneer has a stronger Center speaker.
About the only agreement I have found anywhere is to toss the toslink cable that comes with the Sony and most of the review issues disappear for the headset. Someone ruined a batch of toslink cables I guess.
