View Full Version : CardBackup - T5

I have finally got CardBackup to work on the T5. Although there are some programs which are excluded from backup, the bulk of all documents are now being backed up. The key was to create a slow backup file which was created by backing up only 20% of the files at a time until almost 100% of the files were backed up. Thereafter, the backup was successful.
If additional backup files are needed, you simply copy the main backup to another directory to create a base file under a different name and thereafter copy over that backup file, i.e. First backup is called sbackup1. If you want a second backup, copy the first into a second folder called sbackup 2.
Seems to work for me.
I am using the Beta version 2.2 BetaR3.
I would expect that the above process may work with all other backup programs. Try it and see.

Did you try restoring after a hard reset?

No...I'm not that courageous. I'd rather wait until I absolutely have to perform a hard reset to try this out. I have, however, performed a number of partial restores and they all worked fine. Looks promising. Hopefully I'll never need to do a hard reset...yikes!

Earlier today I did a HARD RESET on my T|T5 and then did a RESTORE using Backup Plus and then copied my backup copy of the INTERNAL drive I had copied to my SD card........ smooooooooooooth and I was back in business with no problems. To date I have also tried BackupBuddy VFS, TealBackup and Backup Manager. Backup Plus is the only one that didn't crash during backup or restore. I am of course referring to the Backup Plus that PalmOne upgraded for the T|T5 last month. I should note that today's restore was the first time it was done after a HARD RESET. I had used Backup Plus a couple of times to restore without a hard reset and then once after a failed restore by BBVFS 3.07. It has worked every time and now after a HARD RESET.
P.S. Teal Backup DID NOT crash during backup, but it refused to backup a file that Backup Plus backed-up........ and then restored.

Where/how does one find Backup Plus?

It comes on a SD Card that PalmOne sells.

I am using this CardBackup Beta too; the backups are working without problem, and without any error messages. But when i had to do a hard reset CardBackup failed on my T5; i got repeated fatal errors just at the beginning of the restore;
Fortunately i was successful with BackupBuddy VFS 3.07; it took 2 runs to complete the first backup similar to CardBackup; the full restore was successful in one run.
So maybe successful backup without error messages do not mean a successful restore with CardBackup.

I appreciate your input. My experience has been just the opposite of yours. This morning I did (still doing actually) a HARD RESET and total reinstall of my T5 software to include the desktop stuff. The reason I'm doing this is that I have had crashes during HotSync cleanup from almost the beginning of my T5's life. Doing so has eliminated those crashes and everything appears to be happy.
I've tried just about all the backup applications (including CardBackup) on my T5 and to date Backup Plus (on the SD Card by PalmOne as updated for the T5 last month) is the only one that has worked without one problem or the other.

@Zano
I tried the Backup Plus too, but as with CardBackup i got "good" backups but repeated fatal errors when doing a full restore after hard reset.
I think none of the current Backup programs are working without errors; maybe the very various behaviour of the programs for us users depends on the installed 3rd party software?

Perhaps, but after a LONG history of HotSync crashes that have been corrected with a TOTAL reinstall of the WHOLE PalmOne package, I'm inclined to recommend the same thing. Backup Plus is the ONLY things I've found to restore without a hitch. BUT,........ later today I'm going to do a HARD RESET then a Backup Plus restore to test it once again.
