I have an NX70v and I have tried to use different music players to play music files instead of using the default audio player b/c it did not recognize my CF music files. With each music player, everytime I try to play a track I get an error message saying that there is a problem with the software. Does anybody know if perhaps Sony disabled the use of the third party music applicaitons or something????

This device does not have the normal sound api, a problem common among many Sony devices. There is a fix for this here (http://aibohack.com/clie/modclieaud.htm), but im not sure how well it will work, though it should.

Wow thanks you are truly a life saver. It worked perfectly. I can now play mp3s from my third party mp3 player from my CF with no problems. I am going to try and see if the default movie and audio player will now work as well. Thanks a bunch!!!

Sorry movie player still acts as dumb as ever. i am trying to find a 3rd party movie player that will work better. Kinoma works at bit better. i will also try different compression programs.

You might try this movie player that is written by the same peroson that wrote the audio fix you downloaded http://aibohack.com/clie/fullmovie.htm. You do need to have you movies in a form that the clie will play MQV.
Good luck

Yeah I just recently downloaded that movie player and it works well w/ my MS, but when it comes to my CF it yields basically the same results. Maybe it is the CF. I am aware that they have different speeds. So maybe my CF is too slow or something to play movies because when I try to play a movie file off of the CF its says "file not found."

It sounds more like you have a problem with your CF card driver or the location of the file on your CF card. I don't think you would get a "file not found" response if it was just a question of CF card speed.
I load movie's using IC with the CF card plugged into my desktop card reader. That way IC creates the right file structures and file ID's. I also run ClieMounter on the NX70 which allows you to unmount the MS when using the CF.
I have found that there tends to be problems if you have both MS and CF mounted at the same time.
Hope that helps :-)

Well thanks for the suggestions. It appears you were right. After doing a lot of research in forums, experimenting, and eventually doing a hard rest, i discovered what i was doing wrong. I will explain incase anyone else is having a similar problem. The reason it was not recognizing the files is because when i installed the CF Utility i did not install the the one that had (hacked) next to it. So instead I had installed Cfutility.prc alone instead of Cfutility(hacked).prc. The hacked one enables you to use your CF to a greater extend than just the regular one. I discovered there actually really is not necessary to install the hacked camera, movie player, or audioplayer! Thanks to the cliemounter utility you told me about I was able to unmount the ms and use the CF just as if it were an ms plugged in. Therefore this enables you to use all your regular apps because the clie thinks that an ms is plugged in. Some of the programs freeze up from time to time, but all in all they still work. That's it is handy to have a little program i downloaded called crash pro. It automatically resets your pda when it freezes up and gives you an error message, which saves you the trouble of pressing the hole in the back of your pda. Personally I did install the hacked camera and movie player files, though they were not necessary. You will definitely need them if you dont have cliemounter. Hope this is helpful to anyone w/ a similar problem.

Glad to hear that you got it working.
Thanks for the tip about crash pro I don't have that yet and as you say some programs do freeze up now and again. I have found that that even the camara will record to the CF card. It does crash when you stop recording but after a soft reset if you check your CF card you will find it has actual recorded a file which can be played back with no further problems. This can be useful occasionally when you are away from home and have run out of MS space.

Yeah so it was a problem w/ the driver. I find I have the same thing as far as the movie recorder is concerned. When I record a clip and then hit stop, it crashes but when the system is reset the clip is in working condition. It's nice to know that all my apps work now. Have you tried the voice recorder app w/ the CF? It's kinda similar to the movie recorder for me. Well anyhow, I have one quick question. Do you use a dial-up modem w/ ur pda? If so what ISP do u use b/c mine apparantly does not support handheld devices. So if u know about which company does, please let me know.

Today I was actually able to operate all of my applications w/ the CF perfectly! No problem at all. Just as if it were an ms. My Clie is in top shape right now. My only problem is that my battery charge doesn't last any more. Today I finally think I figured out why. Somebody else told me that if you charge your clie or any rechargeable device before the charge goes all the way down then it cause the battery to aquire a memory. In the other words that battery operates as though when it reaches half charge, it is out of charge completely and therefore wears out faster. Have you had any similar experiences?

Can you play a movie and move the slider around while the movie is playing?
My movie player freezes when I do that. If it works for you, then can you tell me what you did to your clie to get it working?

Yes I can but what you have to do is that you have to stop the movie before you do that. So press stop, move the slider to wherever you want it, then press play to continue.

It sounds like your battery is on its way out. The batteries used in modern PDA's are Lithium Polymer or Lithium ion and do not suffer from the memory effect you describe. These new type battery technologies can be charged contiuously or from empty or from part-charged. Unfortunatly like every rechargable battery they don't have an infinite number of charge cycles. You will see from some of the other threads that after about 1.5 to 2years people start having battery life problems. My own battery which is nearly 2years old, only lasts for half as long compared to when it was new.

What did you do to get your CF to work that way? My Clie just had another hard crash when playing Team America from the CF.
