Memory Stick Pro (1GB) with NR70V

Hello. I am about to receive a free NR70V soon and was wondering if the Memory Stick Pro (particularly the 1GB sized ones) work with it?

Also, are there any upgrades (OS wise) I can get for the NR70V so it can support higher capacities, i.e. 256mb, 512mb, 1GB, etc. ?

Yes, the Memory Stick Select will work. It is basically two 128MB sticks in one case with a switch.

You will only see 128MB when you install it. To access the other 128 you take it out, flip the little A<->B selector switch and pop it back in.

As stated above, the OS4 Cliés can only use sticks up to 128MB capacity. The MS Select was Sony's way to offer more storage to customers with older Cliés, cameras, etc.

Depends. The earliest OS5 devices were released before MS Pro and they need a software update to be compatible. The OS5 models that need an update are (I believe):

NX60
NX70v
NZ90
TG50

The update is available from Sony support, but who knows for how much longer now that the Clié is no more. :( The NX60/70 require the update to access MS Pro. The TG50 and NZ90 have limited access, but need the update to be fully compatible. Once the update has been installed MS Pro access is transparent.

Note: The update syncs into RAM; so if you use your MS Pro to backup your Clié and have to hard reset, you will not be able to access your backup until you re-install the update. Best to use a standard MS for backups (or at least have one handy with the update).
